no water from exhaust??

Hi All, new to the forums, but i have lurked around for some time.
atahe problem i have is i have no water coming from my exhaust?? and yes they get very hot! i have replaced both manifolds and risers, all hoses, rwp, circulating pump, and the rwp was put back on right, oh yea, it is an '86 sn, pcm 351, i am puzzled???? also changed the thermostat(143)- can anyone give me any idea's, i would greatly appreciate it.

is the impellar reversed? follow the hoses 1by one to find blockage? did it just stop?

Check your transmission oil cooler for blockage.

all the hoses are new, i put the impeller/rwp back on exactly the way it came off, i put new manifolds on, and now no water, and the cooler is clean, if i pull the 2 block drains,water sprays out of them with a good amount of pressure,i have pulled the risers off of the manifolds,checked for blockages, they are clear, like i said, i put "new" pcm manifolds and risers on it??????????

You could try disconnecting the hose between the raw water pump outlet and the engine inlet. Then start the engine briefly and see if water sprays out of the pump. Don't run the engine very long though since it won't be getting any cooling water.

This will at least tell you if the problems with your pump or not.

disconnected the raw water pump, pumps A LOT of water!

Try taking one of the hoses from t-stat housing to manifold loose and see if you're getting water there. If water is getting into the t-stat it should be going out to manifold. Did you get the riser to manifold gasket on the right way? 79 can tell you which way is which, I can never recall and always have to look it up.

pull the stat. i have heard of them being bad off the shelf. but you would still get water out of the exhaust.hmmm hose crossed?

Ok here goes on the riser gaskets the blocked off section should be to the rear, call and talk to Vince or Richard at skidim to double check but I'm 99% sure thats the way it goes. the hose coming from the RWP should go to the front port of the t-stat house, removeing the t-stat won't do anything even if it is bad it won't stop the flow of water to the manifolds. The two ports opposite of each other feed each manifold. You can disconnect the hose at the manifold and verify that water flows out of both again run just long enough to see if water is going out. What I'm beat is the problem is you have a kink in the hoses going to the mainfolds preventing the water from flowing through them (hoes are too long and not lined-up). If the brass barb on the manifolds isn't lined up right or the hose is too long then the under side of the hose will collapse and prevent the water from flowing through it. The hose should have a nice gradual bend to it and has to maintain it's shape (dia) for the full length otherwise you create a restriction and water always flows the path of least resistance. Rotate the barb a little more if needed, don't loosen it if you do you can create a leak, remember the threads are tapered and thats how they seal. A little trick to help you line up the barb to the t-stat port is position the barb on the right side (drives) straight up and attach the hose to it leaving the end that goes to the housing unconnected and make sure the curve of the hose follows as well then tighten the barb until the underside of the hose touches the top of the housing. Now you can use this as a guide to trim the hose to length, Do the samething for the other side put have it point straight down and it touches the underside if the housings port and trim it to length as well. Once done you should see a continous diameter of hose with no collapsed spots. You'll have to tighten the barbs just a hair more to get them perfect once you connect the hoses. Make sure that the barb is tight already when starting at the 12 and 6 o'clock postions and then attach the hose. Also double check and make sure that you have the correct gasket and are not blocking off the port on the underside of the t-stat housing as well and that there is an opening in the housing that attaches to the intake incase you have the wrong lower housing. by disconnecting the hoses at the manifolds and running will tell you if your problem is in the t-stat houseing gooseneck area. Also you are attaching the hose to the manifolds on the front and not that back, the back is the drain and the front is the feed just want to cover all of the bases I'm sure it isn't but if it is DOOOAAHHH!!!!

thank's, 79, will give that a try this evening,just recieved another new thermostat,and impeller from richard @DIM.
kinda thought the t-stat might be bad??
for 9.00 it's worth a try, will let you know.

Did you perhaps use fresh-water system risor gaskets by mistake?

found the problem YEE HAA! simple, took off t-stat housing, and it had plugged up with rubber from the old impeller, working perfect now, i cleaned it up, repainted it and never thought to look inside it to see if it was pluggd!
you guy's don't think i screwed up my manifolds, do you? it got hot enough to melt the rubber exhaust hose!
For what ever it's worth , tanks for the help!
any of you get around houston,tx, i owe you all a beer and a burger! p.s. where can i get the original decals for my boat?

Greg...check that housing everytime you replace the impellor. Those things will shred and block the manifold water inlets 9 times out of ten.

You may want to blow out the manifolds with some compressed air to make sure all the trash is out.

Pull the impellor at the end of the season so it has time to relax. Put a new one in each year and keep the old as a spare. If you do this, what happened to you previsouly will never happen again. "Maintenance Vs Repair".

thanks for the advice, we go up to livingston, conroe,halls bayou, this boat had not been uncovered, or in the water, nor started since 1995,in perfect condition, only problem i had when i finally started it, was an overheating problem,wel from there it went
to a carb, performer intake, electronic ignition, now the next task is mufflers,and a 13x13 acme prop(if i could get the old one off), i need the decal that goes across the transom,just above the swim step.THEN it will be complete.
