Welcome to the site Doug.
And welcome to the 66 Barracuda SS owners club. I think it is just you, Steve, and I so far. I suspect that yours has the 318 M-Series Poly head motor. You can use the Serial Number Plate to determine 318A , 318B or 318C. You could have a L-Series if someone changed the motor out. Here is a site that you can download the Operations Manual. I think that it is also under the reference section on CCF Link to download |

This a picture of the valve cover and the ID plate from a "D" motor which is the 235HP variation of the Poly. I believe that the D motor had higher compression as well a modified camshaft.

Frank,
My engine tag says the exact same thing, except of course the serial number is 96590 so a bit newer that yours. I don't know what the "Part Number" designation means, as mine is stamped part # 12-22-I..... I've been looking to find a manual for this motor, as the one in the reference section doesn't apply to these poly's.. Perhaps Critter or 62' Wood can help us... Moj' |

It is in there - here is the link
http://www.correctcraftfan.com/Downloads/Chrysler%20Marine%20Engine%20Manual.pdf It covers both the small block and big block motors. This manual is better than the later one for the LA motors. It does not have specific for the "D" motor. This is the best I could ever find. ![]() FrankT |

Greg,
Searched high and low and nowhere have I found reference material on a Fury235 "D" model motor, including what you provided... The manual Frank copied does have the "Poly" engines reference, but not the 235 in any detail.... I don't know why the variation was made to get the 235 out of the 318, but I'm curious to know. I wonder how many were made with the high compression rating??? If anyone has any information on this "phantom" engine, and or a parts manual please let us know.... Moj' |

I believe the crank and rods to be the same in all. Here is a picture of one of the pistons out of an original "D" motor.
![]() Camshaft had the following numbers E7624M & 622U stamped on the end. I have no idea how many where made. This engine came out of a Wildcat. FrankT |

Mine ended up being the L series--LM318BWR10173
I think it had 225hp. Did they all come out with a 4bbl carb? Thanks for all the help. |

Chrysler made some good motors back in the 60's and 70's and at the time where leading the pack. Some of this carried over to their marine engines which they did themselves as compared to other manufactures who utilized a third party. Just look and how everything fits together and the unique cast parts.
The LA-318 is rated at 225HP and should have come with a four barrel card on a cast iron intake. I picked up a Holley Street Dominator intake which is a low plan/low torque for some minor performance increase but primarily to cut some weight. Here is a picture: ![]() FrankT |

Welcome Ryan... These things are moving around.
The one mentioned above by Raindog and Mojo now belongs to Reid. He actually has put his in the water. I stopped on mine with about 10 hours to finish. Not sure anymore why I stopped. I should put at back on the carport and finish it. So now it is Steve, Doug, Reid, me and you. Maybe we can get these things together sometime soon. Let us know if we can offer any info or just a source to bounce something off of. |

Do not know how I could have forgotten Gary and his Cuda SS.
Seeing his at GL 2 years ago is what swayed me into buying mine..... Garys is one of the few that are in the water and being seen at the reunions. |

We've got one as well, only ours is a bit unusual as it was built with a 250 hp Interceptor.
Roger, I'd like to see how yours is coming along. Did you get all the wet sanding done? I'd like to see how you did your floor and stringers. We're hoping to start on our floor and stringers this summer. |

Morning Bruce,
I did get the sanding completed and it came out nice. I think that I even have more sanding room if needed. I put the new interior in and started wiring in the guage lights..... then covered everything up and went to Alaska. And that is where it sits. I have lots of pictures of the stringer and glass work. It was just about what others here have experienced. Send me an email from the Profile and I will send you the pictures that I have. I did leave the battery box and tool box under each front seat. Not sure if that was really necessary. Ryan, thanks for putting forth the effort to bring her back to life. You and she will appreciate it. I would not care if there were 100s of these Cuda SS, I just like the way they look and sit in the water... speaking from seeing Garys in the water. I still have hopes of getting mine in the water later this year. |
