Have not had videos post. Late winter and spring I was mano a mano with the legendary footer, Willie Farrell. Anyway, with just him and I in the boat I had nobody to shoot at least 10 epic footsets. With the weather getting better I got my 13 year old daughter Christine to run the camera at my ski club season opener:

Hey Lakeboy as one of your many coaches I have some comments on your video(s) first thanks for posting them! next lets get your tumble turn speeded up and finished in one motion. as you go down do like willie said and let your fett wash to the side bring the handle in toward your belly button a bit and SPIN fast and go all the way around by pulling the handle towards the opposite hip you will spin faster and smoother...just do it before you get that slow method too ingrained. Next on your back one foots-look right at the end of your video and see your lifted foot POINT...when it does that so is the one you're skiing on you are pointing it too and thats why you fall over, keep your toes and fore foot flexed towards your shins(or relaxed) don't point your toes-foot...it takes a conscious effort not to do it...so lets clean those two things up bro.

You ARE my coach. Others are merely assistants. You have been there from the beginning. Anyway, yeah, I have been braindead on my tumbles. Going out today hopefully clean those up. The pointed toe was on my reverse, and yes I saw it. Thr reverse needs lots of practice, I will hit that too this weekend. Sorry You can't join us, but yes, duty calls. I will ski one for ya!

You're making me feel bad......I was out cutting the lawn for the 4th time this spring and haven't been out behind a boat for the yet this year....I've gotta get my priorities straighten out!
Thanks for your steady supply of video. At least watching some good 'footin action lets me feel like I've been on the water or in the boat. |

LLSkier: get out and rip a set! I was mentally trashed friday having learned my company was passed over for a big project we had a good shot at. Something about going 43 MPH on the water on your barefeet helps clear the head! Hoping to get out this afternoon with the legendary Cajun footer, Willie Farrell.

I tried last time and said the dirved to go faster than normal and I had a nice face plant when I lifter the foot.lol I really don´t know speed as my speedos need to be tuned but engine rpm´s (also not sure the accuracy of readings) are around 3500... |

Kapla,
Land practice, land practice land practice. Shoes skis will speed up the prgression while building confidence at slower speeds. If you have no access to shoe skis try a pair of old tennis shoes. Force yourself to turn the bridle to your one foot side, this will help put the center of gravity over your one foot. Practice this on land and it will come to you on the water. |

I have a pair of oneil neoprene boots that have rubber soles..are they usefull?
when you say try on land.. you mean strap the handle on a pole and start playing around like I´m on the water? get proper balance practice that movements and all that? will do.. |

Not sure the boots will work, but yes tie the handle to a pole and try that as often as you can. You'll still see pros using the same concept. I have on old handle I keep tied up on the porch.

Yes....practice on land with the handle tied to something. You want to work on slowly shifting all of your weight to one foot before lifting the other. It does seem to help to tip the handle to get the shift in weight thing going. When you lift a foot, lift it forward like you are kicking a soccer ball or something. Be sure to keep the knee bent on both legs....the one you are standing on as well as the one you are lifting. You will be tempted to push the foot you are standing on forward and pull in on the handle.....try to avoid both. Knee bent, arms straight. As far as speed, you will be wanting a little over 40mph.

Kapla: I am going 41 MPH on the one foots. I weigh 185 lbs., and that speed or faster is good for me. Better to do one foots at the slowest you can handle. It will force you to have better technique. |

GlassSeeker and I went out and caught a quick set Saturday AM. More opportunity to work on the back one foots. Was able to ride a couple, even the reverse. Took at least 5 good bacerd head-packers that day. Ready to go right now, again.

Went yesterday late beautifull weekend but kids and family are making baiting times more brief...worst in the winter with the lower T.
So I managed to leave the wife. Went with Valentino. Just the 2 of us. My driver was in the canal with his family. I got there he docked his boat and had him drive me. Water was glass, perfect. So I had a nice session. My starts are now fine and clean...I also got to clean the Tumble turns... Too bad I forgot my camera. I also tryied one foot, I was almost there but I think I have to work a little on the balance. I grabbed an old handle I had at the marina, so I will start to do some dryland practice over the week... I Bf for almost 20 minutes, I was exhausted. Then for chill out I did some slalom.... Total time was 1 1/2 hours round trip for 30 minutes of total water fun.. Totally worth!!! saved my WE... LOL |

need to adjust the boom cam angle a bit better. if you look closely you can see the little grey cam on the boom. I have it shooting parallel to the water, which is cool to shoot the backwards shots because it is a cool angle. for forwards I want to shoot parallel to the rope angle and get a better shot of the skier and maybe see the feet.
thanks for the props, tique! |

Got out and ripped a set with some spectacular conditions. We finally got some 80 degree temperatures here in Sacramento. Water got a bit warmer too. Fun part about this is WINTER IS OVER!!! This means at least 5 good months of warm weather barefooting! Making good progress on the back one-foots. That reverse foot is still hairy!

gotta appreciate the long runs yes. if you were to google map "Port of Sacramento" or Sacramento Deep water channel, you would see it is a 20 mile straight shot. When conditions are right, and they were yesterday, you can go for miles, and almost never run into another skier.
I pick the music for the videos. That song is "Fly" by Liptocoal. Somewhat unknown Indie/Christian rock band. That is the genre I tend to like. Generally the music is inspiring, and never has foul language. Good to crank around the kids. Dial into this site: Christianrock.net, and you will be surprised how good the music is, even if you are not a church person. Thanks for the props on the tunes, another passion of mine! |

OK, so I am obsessed! Took a quick trip out to the ski club for a nice set of runs. It was spectacular. Zero wind, a tiny bit warmer water, plus I make some strides with the BoomCam angle. Also I took a strange tumble turn wipe out worth a look:
I picked the music especially for SN206: Twilight Footset Tumble Turn Wipeout |

Wow Lakeboy that was spectacular...GlassSeeker likes water like that I missed out. Tell Craig to keep his arms long- don't pull in on the handle while doing the one foots- move the handle a bit to the side you are fooing on- keep shoulders level and square- pick up and set down a little slower and more "in control" deliberate...with confidence. he can speed it up later. As the say at the range "slow is smooth and smooth is fast"
Now go tear it up some more! |

Got to foot this afternoon, water wasn't the best and the skiing was sloppy, but a bad day footin is still better than any day at work.

Ahhhhhh.....finally, about a month behind the normal start date but the ski season is now underway. Several runs yesterday and again this afternoon. Great water, near glass conditions, and little boat traffic, partially due to low water levels.

Wow. I'm impressed. The water still has to be pretty chilly in Wisconsin, and you say this was a late start? I'm still giving it another week or two...and it will still be chilly then. |
