Marine teak

Is all marine teak the same? I'm trying to buy some scrap off of ebay that a seller is listing as African Marine teak. Is that the same kind of teak that would've been used in the trim pieces on my 88?

Not real good with the photo upload and especially the paint thing, but the red line shows a strip along the gunnel that I need to replace. Also, there rear leg of a ski rack that has split and needs to be replaced. I was looking for enough to cut/shape/refab both of those pieces.

I've got a mirror as you walk into my house that is made of African Teak, it looks the same to me. The story was that they used them for railroad ties in South Africa a long time ago, they last a very long time, but the wood is now valuable enough that they are taking them out and selling the scrap ties to lumber mills.

Teak as gotten stupid expensive! I saved a peice that might work for you after I had the back two peices redone on my '98 Take some measurements. I might have a peice large enough to work.

Here's a slightly better picture of what I need to fix the ski rack. The longer strip of teak on the gunnel I can worry about later as it's functional for now. Regarding the ski rack, here's a better photo of the two pieces that make up that problem and some measurements.



The larger piece is approximately:
7/8 thick, 15 long and 7 wide

The smaller piece is approximately:
1/2 thick, 3 7/8 long and 2 7/8 wide

I'd glue and clamp them. Look for a wood glue in a green bottle, it's meant to be used in wet environments, the name however escapes me right now.

Polyurethane glue. It will work on oily woods. Elmers "Ultimate" or "Gorilla" Do not use one of the "white" glues even if it's Titebond III that's claimed to be waterproof.

Clamp it up, wipe the excess with a solvent rag and then come back and check on it. The poly expands as it cures and will seep out until it sets up.

I understand your analogy regarding the rebar. Yes the break is where you would expect it - right with the grain. Personally, I'd just try the glue first. If you do want to dowel it from the backside, I'd use one of the grooved dowels made for glue retention rather than just straight dowel stock. The premade dowel pins are usually hard maple or equal.

Don't think the peice I have will work for you, sorry.

Wow, you obviously have the very best/easiest solution for me. Just to recap and since you have replacement parts instead of just scrap teak, I actually need 3 total pieces.

I need the two pieces in the last picture posted (the actual ski forks piece as well as the smaller base piece that screws to the floor) and also the teak strip that runs along the gunnel on the starboard side in the first posted picture (The lower most one, the one closest to the floor).

Man, I don't know what they are worth. They are unavailable thru correct craft, but pretty easily reproducable once you get the teak. I'm assuming yours would at most need a light sand and oiling. Give me a price, I'm sure we can reach a deal.

I checked and the only pieces I have are the fillers for the back seat.

Quinner, I'm 99% sure they are factory. Not sure what years they offered them or if they were standard equipment or optional.

If factory almost certainly would have been an option, mine were.
Either way, good to see Ski racks after the WL shot of your boat with a tube in it, LOL.

About 45k but they threw in the boat, LOL. Really don't know as they did not break the pricing down when I ordered the boat.

If you are interested the MFR tag on the mats have contact info, Aqua Mats or something like that, they refer to the mats as "carpet runners", there are (3) pieces total, send me an email and I could forward their phone number.
