Try to wrangle the broken piece of key out with needle nose pliers, forceps, etc. Hopefully, you can get the piece out and use your spare key (if you have one).
If not, it is time to but a new ignition switch. |

Easy job;
Here is a large group of us replacing the ignition switch in Chuck Areny's boat at Green Lake. Well actually I am just watching as anyone that was there will tell you. Usually does not require this many guys. john |

I am not the guy in the long sleeved-monogrammed blue shirt. Look closely at that gentleman..he has a turtleneck on under the long sleeved shirt. When us guys get old our circulation slows down thus making us feel colder. john |

Back to the key. In the '84 SN2001 once the ignition switch was removed you could remove the case that covered the tumblers by inserting a small finishing nail in one or two areas that were somewhat obvious (inserting the nail puched down the pin holding the cover in place). Once the cover is removed it was easy to remove the broken key. If yours is different I would suggest a lock smith. They should not charge you to much since it would be like re-keying a lock.

Sorry to hi jack, but maybe you could take the lock out and take it to a lock smith,I have had good luck with them making lost keys etc.

I cannot imagine a locksmith will touch it for less than what a new one costs at NAPA. Pretty sure they are around $20.

Heya! Brought the ignitionswitch to the locksmith but too bad, it's damaged too much. Have to buy a new one, where can I go for a new one? Maybe an order by the internet? Thanks guys! |
