Throttle/Shifter adjustment help

   Hello,  My 66 Wildcat with 401 Buick seems to shift into gear at too high an RPM.  Before I start adjusting things blindly would anyone care to give me an idea on how to do this.  Do I just adjust the cable at the carb so that it moves later in the stroke?  Thanks, Frank

	Frank, Yes. Watch the shift lever at the trans too. It should go full stroke (FWD and REV) before the throttle starts to move.

	Sometimes you have to adjust at the throttle and carb to get them in sync.

	Frank, Tim's correct on this. Sometimes you run out of adjustment on the 10-32 ends of the cable. Then you have to go up to the helm control and play with it. It's a PITA to work on it!!! BTW, if you do get up there check the brass adapter ends on the cable ends. They do wear out over time. I just put new cables in my 77 plus new ends. The old ones were worn about half way through.

	Okay. I'm going to go at it from the throttle side. I'm pretty sure it doesn't go full stroke before the throttle comes on. Brainard, I just have to know... is that an Atom Skier in your picture thingy?

	Frank, Yes, that's my Atom in the avitar. You can click on them and it will take you to the specific diary. You should set up your Wildcat in the diaries too and then your avitar.

	It depends upon which way your throttle functions. If it pulls to open, it's easier to adjust at the carb. If it pushes to open, then you may not have any other choice that to adjust behind the shifter. AT

	It pulls from the forward side of the carb. So that sounds like good news. I don't really want to get into the shifter.

	So, in essence Pull to open, lengthen adjustment. Push to open, shorten adjustment. This loads the Tensioner for the Morse control. AT

	Had to run out to look and you are right. The cable is mounted forward of the carb but pushes the carb linkage to open. It appears that I should be able to shorten it at the point where the cable connects to the carb. I don't even know what the tensioner is.
