I recently replaced my exhaust hoses. I had to throw away the carpet wrapped around the old hoses. Why is this carpet even there ? Is it ok to leave it off ? Thanks Dan

I think you want it there. I'm pretty sure its there mostly to avoid rattling and probably some heat protection. The exhaust would rattle against the hull and stringers pretty bad without the cushioning of the carpet.

This was carpet on the hoses. I left the carpet on the glass packs so they wont rattle. The hoses dont rattle when I drive. Think it's ok to leave off ?

They used the scrap carpet from the floor to wrap not only the exhaust, but also used it on the gas tank wood rails. You will find several different colors on different boats which I think was pretty neat.
