Alright, the Drag Boat Races have come and gone so now it's time to start making preparations for the TX Flyin. I know some of you N Texas folks were talking about Lake Murray in the spring, this is the big one. We'll have about 100 foilers or so on the Brazos south of Weatherford at Tin Top September 16-20. This one is an official event so you need to be a member of USA Waterski, grassroots membership is OK, the the entry fee has doubled this year to $0. The details are all on the Texas Flyin Website, me and the Excel will be headed north on Thursday morning with a tear drop trailer in tow. Ryan may show up so we can show him the proper use for that tower extension, and some of the best Pros in the country will be showin off the new things they've been working on this summer.

The water is just as hard as it always is, but you can cruise with one finger one the rope so that part is truly effortless. The falls can get your attention, but most are worse than they look, and it is very rare to have something happen that does more than put you back in the boat for a while. I think because most are older than the wakeboard crowd we know what can happen and take precautions and wear safety gear.

Don, just realized your in Houston, we have another Flyin outside of Baton Rouge in New Roads. Due to some scheduling problems this year it has moved from Oct to April 2011. It's a little more family oriented and the people that show up aren't near as intimidating for the beginners, but still plenty of very good people. Texas is a more of the last blow out party with most of the very best riders in the country, and the evening festivities can get a little out of hand for the children. They are both free for USAWS members and everything is paid for with T Shirt sales and a raffle.

I have never been on the Brazos. I heard great thing except it can get crouded. I would like to see the pros doing it.

Anthony, I'll have to check on the membership, I've got a real slows connection right now so might be a little while until I find out, but I think it was about $35 last year.

Mike, no we haven't been out west yet, but I do know and talk to some of those guys from time to time. TX is the original Flyin, this is the 12th I think, and there were others before that. There are so many foilers in TX that we can plan a weekend and get 30 or 40 for the big Flyin they try to keep it around 100 or so by not talking about it a bunch, was getting out of hand a few years ago. Last time I talked to the guys in I'D they were talking about coming down, but though it wouldn't be till next year. That's the best part is you never know who is coming, but there are the usual suspects from around the state and the surrounding states, and then there is always some others. We've had groups from FL , CO, last year we had a few from SD and the year before some from MN. The reunions sound very similar.

OK, here is the link to the Flyin website, www.texasflyin.com
There are directions and other stuff as well as a link to USAWS to register which will save paperwork once your there. The minimum membership is Grassroots for $35, I think everything else can be found on the website. I'll have the Excel there, we camp in a teardrop trailer in the back yard by the well house. |

OK, it's about a week away, there have been some changes, it's not going to be an official USA Waterski event this year so the membership is out, they do want everyone to come down to the beach and sign in. Buy some T shirts and raffle tickets while your there. Sorry for the confusion, I just found out this weekend after we had discussed this just 3 weeks ago.

If anyone is heading out from DFW let me know and I'll make sure you get to the beach, boats are OK, for your personal use if you don't carry that much liability insurance. You just can't pull foilers involved with the event, but you are welcome to watch and get in other boats and ride around. Looks like there will be a good crowd, 75 to 100 foilers, boats usually start hitting the water between 9 and 10 and everyone is out on the water by noon. I keep my phone with me at all times and my email adress is (screen nAme) at gmail.com. Don |
