why do some recommend only hand tighten spark plugs and leaving the cables loose over the winter ?
how important is it to torque the plugs and not just tighten them up 1/2 turn or so with wrench ?
thanks, cheers, John

John,
Leaving the plugs only hand tight isn't even in the engine manual. Who's telling you this and what is their reasoning? Was it someone at a marina? Marina's do have some tricks to increase their revenue. They get you back in spring for the so called BS "summarization"! The same is true with removing the RWP impeller.

I saw it on a post here that I Searched under Winterize Checklist. The Poster was NAUTI84.

It didn't make sense to me, I've never done that, which is why I asked.

He also said to remove the water pump and remove Impeller. I actually do that, I store my pump in the garage where it won't freeze and I remove the impeller to inspect, or to replace the next year (I replace every 3 years) and to keep it from getting a set over the winter.

Thanks. Cheers, John

It still doesn't say why!! I really don't see the logic?? Plus, unless you have a injected engine, fogging down the carb is sure easier!! It's always worked for thousands and thousands of winterizations. Maybe it was started by someone using the -100 stuff? Probably not as they were doing the "quick and dirty"!!!

Following Petes recommendations I simplified this year. I ran seafoam through system, filled tank with non ethanol (as usual) with seafaom added. Fogged down carb till stalled. Changed oil.(20w 50 vr) Drained all plugs and diconnected a few low points on intake hoses to drain, and removed strainer basket/container. I left the impellor in and filled above and below with antifreeze, and dumped antifreeze through t-stat housing till full. re-installed t-stat. charged and disconnected the battery but left in. Spring should be reconnect batttery and start.
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Dave,
Doing good except there's no reason to open up the T stat. Pour the AF down one of the hoses that goes to the T stat housing.
