Some of you may know that I'm really not the greatest on the computer and have never learned how to type but our computer is down (locked up) and I'm having to use my wifes laptop. Damn lack of a mouse has got me totally screwed up!!!

It is a sad state of affairs but computers are a throw away item after a couple of years. Back up those file all the time!

Unless you buy a MAC!!!! Got a new one thru the business this year, but my college macbook is still kicking 5 years later and never had a virus/problem! It's now being used for Alicia to finish up her schooling! Just gotta tell ya this story...my buddy was going to get a new comp for christmas a year ago and was talking to his parents about what he wanted. I tried hard, but he wen't with a PC.... Christmas evening I swing by his house to drop off a gift and he shows me his new computer....Not kidding....damn thing CRASHED!!!!! 7 HOURS OUT OF THE BOX Spend the extra couple hundred bucks and get a Mac....it will save you $$$$$$$$ in the end |

Hi Pete, most of my posts are done from a laptop, I bought a wired usb mouse at walmart of all places while on vacation when I first bought the computer and it has worked great. $13 well worth it.

Pete those touchpads are great for working in confined areas but if using on a desk just add the USB mouse.

The first time I had to use a laptop was up north. The library was closed so I borrowed one of the kids and drove over to a WiFi spot. I was so frustrated without a mouse, I think I was able to only complete 1 post. Telling the kids the problem, they got me a mini mouse for Christmas!! (It's still up north) Yes, I know you can just plug one and I will give it a try!

That's funny Pete. I just put myself through the same adventure. I moved my office up to the kitchen table to best simulate life on the road. The touch pad was my biggest hurdle!
It's pretty cool once you get it. There are also some settings for the pad. |

Pete, I use the laptop all the time. I got so comfortable with the little fingerpad that I now can't stand a mouse. It is all in what you get used to!

Yep I use a laptop at home with a wireless router, I can sit by the pool, in the gazebo, I've had it open while working on my boat for schematics (or CCfan)plenty of times. You'll get used to it. You can also get an IR mouse so no cables, they work fine.
Work is a different story, I have a 12 pc network that can drive me nuts. Everything runs off of a server so if a pc workstation gives me trouble I throw it in the trash and run down to my local computer guy and pick up a reconditioned pc for $159. I've spent $400 fixing a $200 computer too many times, typically I buy lease trade in's that will run for a few years and work just fine but first sign of trouble they head to the shredder. |

I'll spend the extra *$1,500, not a couple hundred* on a mac...never. lol I will NOT conform to the MAC language no matter how awesome people say they are. Amye is a designer and works on them and loves them. I still hate them. haha |

Mac vs PC the debate is alive and well! My dad has been "debating" this rivalry since the first macs came out in the 80's with his dad. I have seen Macs last and I have seen them crash. Windows pisses me off with their new operating system every 18 months and all the hoops you have to go through top get your peripherals to work. Kind of like cell phones- you can't just go get a new one like your old one even though you like the old one. Seems like new phones come out every month and they all have problems. The envy, the pearl, the glide, they sound like a bunch of tampons!
