I have a 1997 and I live in Charleston, SC.... Do I need to fill engine with Antifreeze? Also I have half a tank of fuel that I am pretty sure has ethanol. I can not run the boat. Can someone tell me what my best options are? Drain or add stabilizer

Josh,
There are plenty of threads on winterizing but the best spot is to follow the procedure recommended in the owners manuaal. If you don't have one, take a look in the referrence section under manuals and print a copy. If you want to take a look at comments here, use the search feature using the key word "winterizing". I'm sure it will keep you busy reading for awhile. Why can't you run the boat? It would be best so the treated gas gets into the carb. |

It would be even better to siphon out the ethanol & put in some aviation gas, run that into the carb.

In the Carolina Climate, Antifreeze is not necessary, but I was sure glad that I did when it was cold as heck last year. It is cheap insurance. I ran my boat with stabilizer for the last few weeks of the season. It is probably a good idea to use stablizer year round. I always top off my tank for storage. I hear that it helps to keep condensate out. However, some will tell you to have a empty tank. You can run your boat on a hose or a fake lake in the driveway if it will run.

fwiw, I've tried all ways of "winterizing" of the fuel with ethanol in around 20 years that we have been running it in all sorts of gas engined toys.
I would say it is best if you have a full tank to put stabil (or other brand) in it, and run it until the treated fuel gets into the carb. I have been running the tank down as much as I can, then filling it right before season with fresh gas. Never had an issue that way in any of my sleds, chainsaws, boat car, etc. I also have left sleds with full or mostly full tanks of E10 gas in them with no other off season layup done and they start right up when the season comes around. I wouldn't lose sleep over it in any case. |
