My 1992 dash pod is loose..all the points where the thumbs screws are supposed to adjust the pod to the deck are broken..I have tried several times to repair those parts by adding of filling the missing parts with fiberglass, or a piece of alluminun riveted..but they collapse after a while
I intend to fix it again, as I´m not for spending a fortune in getting the oe,..If I can find one... I will come with some pictures this week.. Any advise in how to get this fixed?

How much are those stainless steel retainers worth to ya? I have couple of dozen of them.

Which ones? I tried using ss washers glassed to the back but fb don´t seem to stick well to the pod... Also there´s a hump on the 2 front screws whick makes the use repair more dificult..do you have a picture of the retainer so I cvan see how to use them!!

Ok my bad the pod is broken not the retainers that are riveted to the deck under the pod. I use #12 or #14 finnish /cup washers when the holes are wallered out or the plastic is broken. Sorry never have taken pictures.

I think I will remove the dash and work it home..
Lol Anytime I hit a large wake while cruising I end up with the dash hitting my finger on the wheel..

I´ve been dealing with my loose dashpod since I bought the boat 10 years ago....
Never payed to much attention on those details until I got here and was hit by fixing bug...

Kapla I repaired mine with a product called plastex. I had it for repairing motor bike plastic body parts. It worked very well on the 89's plastic dash pod. Not sure if it is available in Argentina.

looks like a great product..but I don't think its available here...I might order a kit and send it to my uncle who is flying by the end of the month to argentina..I wonder if it safe to carry this with the luggage..

I will make sure to take some pictures while I attemp the repairs!!!
I´m looking some local solutions to replace the plastex stuff that´s not available down here... I´m not sure the dash is ABS plastic..If so I´ve seen some type of puty that can be made with abs shavings mixed with acetone..that puty can be use to fill missing parts on plastic fenders, fill holes, etc..so I guess I can give it a try to the dash...

JB Weld for Plastic or any 2-part plastic repair.
Permatex 84101-- this stuff is the bomb. Body shops use it to repair plastic bumpers! I have used it and it is wicked!!

Well patient is at home..surgery will be performed this nite. pics to come..don´t expect to see a neat job...it´s gonna be a kaplastyle repair!!!

some pictures..not a fancy repair but I think it will hold for some time.. here´s are some of the previous repair and patches..I worked the area with the dremel so that the epoxy adhesive would stck better 
here you see a po repair with a piece of alluminum 
and here a FB repair I did a couple of years ago..I used a washer in between the mat to give some strengh... 
one of the sides of the repair is holding fine but on one side the patch came loose..so I used it again but this time I used a 2 component epoxy adhesive called poxipol and made a nice bond 
then I used an epoxy filler (2 components) and filled all the voids in all 4 points of attachment. 
then some black paint to finish 
finished 
i sanded off the repair to take some of the glossy paint out in order to match the vinyl... Didn´t put it yet but I feel its going to work fine..that epoxy filler looks like it made a good bond..I tried to move it with a plier to see if it moved and it holded fine... |
