I want to hardwire my automatic bilge to the battery (with an in-line fuse of course)and bypass the accessory switch in the dash. I will connect the manual bilge wires to an accessory switch. Do many of you do this, and if you don't, what do you recommend?
Thanks

If your pump has a automatic feature, then you can wire that hot leg directly to the battery however, the "batt" terminal on the ignition switch will do the same. I prefer at the helm to keep the battery free from extra wiring. You'll be going up there anyway with the manual hot leg.

Why the auto feature? Do you keep the boat in the water?

Thanks for the advice. We will leave it in the water overnight on weekends so we can hit the smooth water early in the morning, and you never know when a thunderstorm might dump 5 inches on you. Also, doesn't the switch on the dash burn that red light if it is on, further depleting the battery?

Thanks

You sure, Pete? I believe mine stays on in my '90. It can stay on for weeks at a time without draining the battery though. Though, my auto bilge pump has a float switch- it doesnt cycle on and off every few minutes like some models.... and my cover does a good job of keeping water out.

Tim,
You are correct. For some reason I was confused and thought the boat was a 79. I now see it's a 95. I'm sure the red light is a neon or LED so the draw is very low.

Thanks guys. This is a 95 that I just bought and am working on over the winter here in Charlotte. My first Nautique at age 50 that I have dreamed of owning since I was a kid. Can't wait to get my three boys on the water next summer. I'll have more questions as I get into it. Here is my list so far:
Repack shaft and rudder housing.
Replace bilge
Replace steering cable
Replace speedo's

By the way. Do you recommend the bilge pump available at Correct Craft parts, and can it be wired for both auto and manual?

Thanks,
Mark
