I am replacing the rotten floor on my 69 Barracuda. The plywood is coming up in slivers. There is what looks like a thin layer of fiberglass under top layer of plywood. Does this need to be removed also? How do you tell if the foam is water logged? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So this would be a small thin layer of plywood, over foam covered in glass. To put back together as original all layers are important.. the plywood holds the vinyl but also spreads out the impact on the floor so that it doesnt crack the glass or crush the foam. To inspect the foam get out a hole saw and go exploring if you find all is well a little patching is all you will need to do... if you find water keep digging till you don't. Most here will bet you find water and plenty of it and that minimally all the foam will need to come out, but no harm in hoping for the best and checking for the worst. |

Is there any plywood under that thin layer of glass, or just foam?

Andrew,
Keep digging and in between do some reading here on stringer replacement. Lots of great info and threads on the subject. How about some pictures? |
