Seb: Glad to hear you are throwing it down in the good weather/water. This late fall has been one of the most wet I can remember. They have over 14 feet of snow already in the Sierras. Wish I was either snowboarding, or the weather was better and was footing. Planned a go-out yesterday with Willie, but canned it due to rain. Foot on...

canoe style boat there...today it was cold here around 55 and windy..so I opted to take a ride on the corvette..boomer after 1 hour ride and when I was about 5 miles from geting back..saw the T at max....stopped at the gas station.opened the hood and saw the water pump belt had broken so that was enough to make the engine overheat...had to wait 3 hours to get towed home tomorrow I will put a new belt and hope not to have damaged the engine...

Yep nice tumbles---good do or die attitude too--- I have a couple tips for you to get em better--- on your tumble up wait for a few more seconds and you won't dig in as you spin to the front. On the tumble turns-pull the handle into your beltline MORE(go ahead and pull the handle in arms bent some) right as you plant your feet let the arms go out long as you come up(its a timing thing) it will smooth things out. Next I know you can ski through those bumps--get a little lower by bending the knees more/sitting lower and push feet out in front a little bit more then don't be too stiff, let your legs and feet follow the bumps and you will ski right over them (unless they are bigger!) just don't be so stiff-that's why you caught. Really good skiing and we all are seeing your progress! COOL! I hope the Vette is OK.

Nice footing Seb. I know it is cool to blast thru the bumps, get taken off your feet and recover. I actually got in a bad habit of hanging on after a fall over the summer, and was told to let go of the handle when I fall. This is to prevent injury. It is good advice. Let go, and re-start the run. Better a re-start, than an injury.

I took a set yesterday with Willie Farrell. Epic conditions. A bit overcast, but warm. Water was like a mirror. Water temp was reasonable too, in the low 50's. Just the 2 of us so no video.

Not sure I posted this, but I was complaining about lots of fatigue, and feeling like crap the last couple of months...turns out I have the Epstein-Barr virus = mononucleosis, better known as mono. Nothing I can do about it, it just has to run its course. Still fee drained, but getting slightly better by the day.

Had a good set yesterday. Did some backwards and forwards on the boom and behind the boat. Nothing new, just trying to get back in the game.

Thanks Seb. Probably about time you get into some backward skiing, eh? Now is the time to learn when the water is warm. I learned in the dead of winter, face down on 46 deg. water.

I hope to be better soon. They say it takes up to 6 mos. to get rid of mono. I calculate I am 3 mos. into it. I have been in the gym, doing a bit of footin' trying to keep my strength up. My cardio is crap right now.

My barefooting has been slow so far this year the rivers have been constantly in flood. We seem to spend more time removing debris from the river than skiing. The last four weekends have not been able to barefoot due to debris in the water. Have been getting the butt glide followed by the faceplant down perfect. Not sure what is happening. I have hooked up with a crew of old skool footers. That is cut down jeans and longline and just hang on till you surface theory.     Trouble is they don't get out skiing all that often. Great guys though and I have known them for years but did not realise they were mad footers in their younger days.

They think all the 3 point and boom stuff is a bit girly. Sometimes I think they just want to watch me axe myself. About a month ago I took my boom out and put it on their boat and the son who purchased the Vapour suit was doing tumble turns and one foots. He previously could not do them behind the boat so they are starting to think the boom is not that bad.

Have a set of shoe skis coming from Santa "Dawg" Bowers. Hoping they may help. These guys seem think that I am not putting my feet far enough out in front and sticking them in hard enough. This seems to contradict what Lane's video has been teaching me though. I need some video, I know. Have just constructed a camera mount that will attach to the bimini. Should get some video on the next ski trip if the river is clean. They are predicting more rain and possible minor flooding again this weekend May have to wait to after Christmas if this rain event happens.
If you're going through hell, keep going

Mark:

Post some video on the buttglide-face plant trick so we can help you with it! Likely you are stabbing your feet in the water hard, and your feet are not anywhere near your butt, rather extended, and you are getting launched. Very common.

Mark, at least your getting out! As Roy said videos will help immensely in trouble shooting. You should be able to ride in the 3 point very comfortably - remember keep your knees together to minimize face spray. I know on the 98 Sport we do get beat up with Chine spray, so its not a lot of fun. But you have the boom extension so that should help out. Like Roy said, you really have to get the feet close to your butt and also flex your foot toward your shins (but don't lift your toes).

By the way, I can't remember if I recounted this here or not (if I did, sorry for repeating), but when I finally got up Long Line, the guys I ski with were kind of bummed - half the fun was watching all the wipeouts or rather getting dragged through the water... Time to find a new "newbie"!

While going longline is "manly"... skiing barefoot well off the boom while girls are in the boat ooohing and awwwing is way more fun

barefoot training has come a long way over the last 10-15 years and now people can learn without tearing tendons or breaking bones and actually stay in the sport and have FUN not get beat up. There's no shame in doing things right and safe and progressing...after you progress past the old skool guys see who is "girly"

there are some damn good female footers that ski better than your friends---I guarantee it!

So pay them no mind.

My 383 stroker motor just arrived at the boatshop!!!! I am so excited about getting that 400 horsepower slapped into my little 1990 Sanger DX....my dream of a "ratrod" barefoot boat --a "sleeper" is coming to fruition. 55 mph+ yipppeee

Andy, you and Roy will have to go out with both boats and take some pictures of that little Sanger jumping out of the hole and walking away from the Nautique... What are you going to use to put all that HP to the water?

Once upon a time I had money...and a 2001 Sanger DXII Barefooter with a 377 Super Scorpion which had 377 horsepower and ran 53mph...it had a 13x13 stainless but this time I'm just going with a 13x13 bronze prop at least at first...if it works thats what I'll go with. My buddy owns a boatshop and he told me about all the other stuff that gets damaged when you hit something with a stainless prop...shafts, struts, etc. he recommended I just go standard at first and see how it goes. I can't see it affecting speed/acceleration too much. But I will report back my results.

Same downunder. They used to just remove the audio soundtrack. But in the last 6 months they just block it.

Seb, video ends with a guy removing a trench coat (everyone else in the boat is in stocking caps and jackets) jumping in by the boom naked, but then cuts to him skiing naked and then some one foot fronts and backs. I can't imagine how you could deep up in the buff...

another nice morning of boarding and footing..80º by 9am now around 90...
I was little tired as I boarded first then footed..so after the first run I was kind of burned and was not able to do clean tumbles...anyway it was a nice set ..I was able to do a toe hold ..but when I was going to grab the handle back I lost balance and ended in the water...
next time will foot first then board...
