sweet77,
dont get to overwhelmed. just enjoy your boat. i just bought my first cc 82SN this past year and even with its problems,(that are now fixed) i just bought a 66 al tyll skier to restore. these are awesome boats no matter whats wrong with them. just take your time and read the forums on this site. you will be more than happy when you get it in the water. |

Sweet77,
Couple things going for you is that boat has a very strong rebuilt motor with some aftermarket parts, it ran very well. The gel on the boat is not too bad, couple of spots need some attention. The keel was damaged from beaching the boat quite a bit and I repaired it for Mojo a few years ago, sort of a quicky job but it came out decent. I also did the temporary fix to the motor mount bolts. Your stringers are pretty bad and you should be planning to replace them in the near future. With that said, when we did that repair we weren't sure if it would last a week and here you are 2-3 years later so I wouldn't let it stop you from using the boat. IIRC I used about 16oz of resin to fill the hole we dug out of each old bolt hole. I'm sure by now things have only gotten worse so the longer you wait to get it done the more you chance damaging the transmission from mis- alignment. If your buddy didn't do any further repair after he bought it back from Mojo the that motor is moving around a little bit. There was no neutral safety switch wired in when Mojo had the boat so we fixed that but I bet you still have no main circuit breaker. We never got one wired in so check it out and fix it. Once in a while you will see a wiring harness for sale on this site and I would pick up the first one I see and replace it when you do the stringers. |

OK folks here it is i took the boat out at 7.am this morning on the river.........afterwards did some digging actually for the first time i have decided to run this summer and take it easy on her (learn how to do a shaft alignment) hint hint........ and after the summer dedicate my garage to full stringer, floor repair out with old in with the new. question can i put composite in my boat? like the new nautiques. and ive read a few forums on these rebuilds i really have only 3 questions. can i do it on a trailer,is the fiberglass strong enough to hold me while im working in it without bracing it up,and im a motor man myself right now im in the process of building my own engine test stand just how many horses can these boats take, i mean that 351w can make some horsepower if they are built right would it be bad if it had 400+ horse in this boat
ps. it was 40 degrees this morning and i was happy in my boat! |

I dont have time to provide all the proper links, but all your questions have been answered many times in the past. Try using the search feature- make sure you search for posts older than 6 months ("Any Date"). I would recommend searching a few of these keywords:
coosa nydacore GT40p Cam Research 408 stroker That should get you started. |

Hey fellas,
Thanks for all the input on the oil issue, I am definetley going to go with the VR1, just one more question. I went to napa to check it out. You guys are reccomending VR1 20-50w, I found VR1 50w (no 20 on the bottle), is this the same stuff you guys are reccomending? The bottle that did say 20-50w on it was the synpower and it did not have the ZDDP additive like the VR1. May be a dumb question, just want to be sure the VR1 50 is the right stuff. |

No, its not the same. If your local NAPA doesnt stock it, they can order it. Ive found that its a little cheaper at Advance.

sweet77,
glad to hear you got out on the water with your boat. interested in knowing if you felt any excessive vibration. if you did you probably do need a shaft alignment. i had to replace my rear motor mounts which gave me the chance to realign the shaft. cant wait until we get our first weekend or evening out on the water this spring |

77, I have a wireing harness with breaker from a running but cracked 87 351 that I replaced. I am not sure about the compatability 10 years apart but someone here will be.
