My father-in-law purchased a 72 seaaray last spring that had sat unused for about ten years. He has had a fuel problem since it will run for about 20 minutes and just die. He initialy drained and cleaned out the tank to the best of his ability, disposing of all the old fuel, but a fine white residue remains inside the tank. He inspected the pickup in the tank and it looked clean. Tank vent is clear also and opening the gas cap does not resolve the problem. As an experiment he installed a primar bulb in the line, it sucked flat. After the last tow in off the lake he drained the tank again and when he was transfering the fuel he said the fine screen in filler of the fuel can plugged up with fine white sediment. How does one get ride of the stuff.

Best way is to take the tank to a good radiator shop, they can clean and seal it.

Check the anti-syphon valve also, it might have gotten stuck and or the sediment got stuck on the tank pickup.

he probably cant pull the tank, Ive ran across this before, the only thing i can suggest is pulling the p/u screen and installing a spin on filter in line before the fuel pump and carry extras...run the tank low or out and repeat....probably should pull the anti-siphon also until it clears up PITA!!

We have not found an anti-syphon valve yet. The tank has been pulled twice, as Eric would say PITA, probably same amount of difficulty as pulling one out of a 2001 but with a few more contorsions.

If I remember correctly, there are companies that will pump the fuel, process it, return it to the tank and keep doing it until the tank is clean.
Might be something to look into. Jeff |

Sounds like something ethanol could clean out - rig up an electric pump & filter & let it cycle for a day?
