I thought it was a good speech and agree it had a good bi-partisan tone to it. I'll believe it when I see it, though. The speech is just words. Let's see what kinds of action comes of it. I was a little concerned about the "talking out of both sides of the mouth" in a few spots. Combining talk of cutting spending with the term "invest" or "investment" seems contradictory.
Were you just as irritated every time Pelosi did the same thing to Bush? Speaking of Pelosi, they interviewed her after the speech on Fox News last night. Did anyone see that? It was like she was a parrot just repeating the same 5 talking points with every question that was asked. I saw John Thune interviewed too. He seemed to provide a more real discussion about what should be done and wasn't just repeating talking points. |

It was a huge mistake on Obama's part. I blame a fair amount of it on Emmanuel and Pelosi, bulldogs that thought they had a mandate, not realizing the need to work across the aisle. I think he was just too inexperienced to realize the mistake until it happened. I'm not in love with the guy by any means. If the republicans can find a candidate I like, that's clearly my preference. If they trot out Palin, Trump, etc., I'll gladly vote for a 2nd Obama term. |

Barack was getting killed on his policys so he went to a new version of hope and change, remember investment means more deficit spending. He is a good speaker but it's just polish on a turd.

I agree a 100% with my STRATFOR colleges in that "President Obama focused on domestic issues in his State of the Union Address last night - as did the Republicans in their response.
Glossing over the elephant in the room (two wars and an escalating Iran situation) may be a good move politically. But with troop withdrawals scheduled for Iraq and Afghanistan this year, and a likely power void for Iran to fill, America's global situation will call for some tough decisions in 2011". i think you guys made solid points. i think he realizes as well as everyone now *************** is really bad.people are sick of the bs and fights on both sides. reality hit when the bullets start flying. i think that made a huge impact, bigger than one could imagine. look what happened in greece. they realize spending is nuts, healthcare is nuts, and unemployment is nuts. its a tough road ahead, they relaize we all want a common goal. a solid income, and a future. they way things are going neither is a guarantee. hopefully this wasnt a smoke n mirrors pep rally. lets stop talking and start acting america!

Obama is full of BS. If you honestly believe his state of union address, fk em!!! Everything said was a lie and will be broken end promises. It has and will be. Look at how he left the great state of illinios. Bankrupt and freeking broke. I have only seen one thing good out this silver tongue devil. He is trying to win us conservatives back by going greenhouse. Bottom line is he still full of sht and he needs to put a sock in it.

If he is that nieve than what was he doing in the presidents office where decisions a lot tougher than should I reach across the aisle must be answered on an hourly basis. He promised change when he campained and specifically said he would work with BOTH sides. He knew when he was elected he had more power than he would ever have again and he shut out the republicans and abused his power. What he was nieve about was thinking that he could bankrupt the country and rape the rich and not suffer any political consequences. He was also nieve to think Americans were sheep, and would put up with his agenda. The Dems, and the Media bashed Bush relentlessly for 8 years, questioning his intellegence, calling him a murderer and worse, They never suggesting that they mix up the seating,or stop the rhetoric. Now that they have suddenly lost some power they are trying to make it politically incorrect to criticize their guy or thier policys. What a load of crap. Barrack administration has Exponentially driven up government spending and the deficit as no other has ever done, then he goes on TV and lectures the country about deficit spending, he follows up with a list of things he wants to invest(spend on) while giving no list of what to cut. The only reason he is speaking of reducing the deficit is that he knows the republicans will force spending cuts. He and the dems will villify the republicans during the process, and gain as much political capital as they can, and then when he signs the spending cuts into law he will say, look I cut spending just like I said I would. This guy will say anything to gain power and then do exactly what he wants. |

So...did we elect the right guy to handle the situation in Egypt? He seems to lack any real commitment to the outcome and its long term implications to the region.

Talk about a tough situation .... Mubarak has been a good ally in many ways, totally rejects Islamist political elements in his government. We give Egypt 2 billion a year in aid. Now it looks like Mubarak is cooked, but there is no clear leader to take his place. The Islamist party is the largest single opposition entity, but it's not clear they could take power. The military is still with Mubarak, but for how long?
So, to your point about Obama - the question I have is what action could/should we be taking? The U.S. is stating that there is need for political reform, true democratic process, but clearly prefers Mubarak to stay in power. How do we make that happen? If we do, are we participating in limiting human rights in Egypt? |

The military is saying they won't fire on civilians so that guestion seems to be answered. Barack is playing both side and waiting for the outcome, kind of a chicken response. Walking the fence afraid to support either side will likely alienate both sides. Leaders lead, based on principles and ideals, they do not wait to see which way the wind will blow them. |

Barrack called for stopping the violence in egypt in his speech last night, that should solve it. What an amazing leader, and so effective.

We need to take that 2 Billion were sending to Egypt and put it toward the national debt. Then we will only be in debt 2,498,000,000,000.00
or somewhere around that amount. |

why should the US even get involved? we got enough of our own problems, we cant even take care of ourselves let alone sticking our noses in their problems...thats the sht that got us pulled into Iraq with the Kuwait gig....to many alliances.
I say let it run its coarse. isnt 2 billion enough?, The US is like a big cow with a hundred stretched titties hanging, we are a self sustaining island and no need to look afar. I have no idea who comes up with these policies, we'll pay you and protect you from evil forces, now if im not mistaken, the big man in prison doesnt give out cartons of smokes and offers free protection, you pay him and bow to him....the lion in the jungle eats first and then shares. the numbers have to be staggering in foriegn aid.. we are a ragged, tired country, and what does it boil down too, cheaper crude? not really, if that was the case we would pull up to the pumps and not swipe the card, if we did swipe the card it would be a thank you card. funny though, recently in the land of opportunity, obesity surpassed the death rate of people that smoke....at least we aint starving. |

What is everyone thinking about the Prez's new budget plan? Bushes last budget 2008 was 2.7 trillion of which 239 billion was deficit, Barack claiming new deficit reducing fiscal responsibility proposes 3.7 trillion of which 1.65 trillion is deficit spending, and that includes the new tax increases that go along with it. He claims it will some how start to reduce the deficit after 2014. How can a budget with 44% deficit spending reduce the deficit? The only way to reduce the deficit is to spend less than you collect. How does he stay credible to some people? In individual terms this would be like me making $205,000 thousand a year, and having a family budget of $370,000. Now imagine me doing this for the next three years. I would be $495,000 in the red. I clearly understand that this can not go on, why do are politicians have so much trouble with this concept? I hope the new kids in the house are able to push through some true cuts.

If I heard right, we'll save over the next ten years about the same amount we'll be borrowing next year. Makes sense to me...
Also, I want to congratulate the bassist(not guitar) who won the grammy. She's sold many an album to beat out that Canadian guy...what's his name? Did anyone else hear about that? And how long does it take a politician to forget a message sent in an election, snub his constituants, and go back to business as usual? Snookie's IQ in days, hours, or minutes? |

I'm with you. There seems to be an assumption that we, the public, are too stupid to understand basic numbers. You've got it right. It's like the health care bill - they spent a lot of time telling us that it would save $$$ over the next decade. Anyone with a bit of reading will know that it will not, instead it will be the next unfunded mandate. We have a real world example in Medicare, it isn't a mystery what will happen, yet they want to tell us a fantasy story and hope it sticks. The debt commission has to be listened to. Only the hard, painful cuts will get the job done. If we don't take care if it now we'll have another, much worse, recession in the coming years, and maybe this country won't recover from it. |
