   I am travelling this week to look at what i hope will be my first correct craft.  It looks to be in very good condition.  But i have a few questions, Is there any way to check out the trans without putting it in the water and will a optima battery fit in the stock location for a 74 skier(in a box in the floor up front).  THe reason i ask is the guy is reluctant to put it in the water because he says it needs a new battery, well i have a friend who has a new optima he will let me borrow if it will fit in the boat.  Thanks ahead of time, the site that you all have created is great.  Also any other pointers would be greatly welcomed.

	My opinion, I wouldn't buy a boat without a test drive. The transmission could be worn and slip in the water versus land. Make sure all the mechanical devices work. Don't let a battery be the difference between testing or not testing. Good Luck! Ken

	There is no in the boat way to test the trans out of the water, and when in the water you should make sure it doesnt slip in a good hard turn. My guess is the optima will fit in the box however the connections might not match up.

	I dont think you will have any problems fitting an optima battery. The red top I have is quite a bit smaller than a standard automotive battery. Certainly dont buy the boat without a test drive, especially if its just needing a battery! Theres also several things you should inspect on the boat prior to buying. 	If he won't test drive it,he'd have to sell it like it was broke!!I've bought boats cobered in snow but it was always a great deal too. Good Luck Munday

	What would you consider a great deal for a boat like this? THe hull and interior in great shape, just doesnt want to test drive. Sorry for all the questions, i just want to be prepared. THanks, JC

	A great deal for a 16' Skier in good shape, would be in my opinon 2000.00 or less.

	I have an Optima in my boat...no problem, the casing is a bit smaller and the posts are standard. Good luck

	I'd be a little worried about someone so reluctant to give you a test drive just because of a dead battery. Seems like a weak excuse to avoid you getting a chance to drive before buying. Makes me wonder if there are other reasons he would rather not have you drive. Be careful.
