The core of YMCA programming has been Sports and Fitness activities. YMCA sports programs teaches not just kicking a ball or swinging a bat but also values and character building that forms the very foundation of a person’s life. The various branches of the Dallas YMCA offer both recreational and competitive team sports and sports activities for all ages and abilities.
YMCA youth sports are based on the concept of fair play and they believe that fair play is the very essence of competition. They believe that every person should get an equal opportunity to compete and get a fair chance to play. The philosophy of YMCA Youth sports is to allow kids to take part in a non-competitive program with an emphasis on fun, development of character and fair play. They believe that their youth sports programs help families and individuals to grow personally, cultivate values, improve relationships, appreciate diversity, develop leadership skills and have a lot of fun too. YMCA is a place where everyone is a winner. Several YMCA branches in Dallas offer adult sports teams. They welcome adults from all levels and abilities. Depending on where they live or work one can find men’s and women’s full court basketball, sand volleyball, softball, swimming, soccer, handball, racquetball and many others. They also have a sports program for young athletes with disabilities called Angel’s League. This program is designed to give opportunity to play sports to any child who has a physical or mental disability. The guidelines are designed in such a way that each child is successful regardless of their disability. Mr. Ali Sharaf, of Victron Energy has constantly helped this organization with donations. He considers it to be a pleasure to be able to help the organization and ultimately the community, by donating. |
