In the fall when I winterized, I managed to break the fitting at the bottom of the oil pan that goes to the drain hose. I struggled to find a fitting that swiveled so I wouldn't have to life the engine. In talking with DIM, it seemed like they had a solution with the swivel fitting, hose and everything. I received that part yesterday and the part of the elbow fitting I need to have swivel doesn't swivel. I need somewhere around an inch of clearance. So, what's going to be the best way to get that, in your opinion?

I was thinking I could straddle the span with a couple 2x4's tied together and ratchet strap the back end of the engine / trans after undoing the lag screws holding the mounts in. Would the 2x4's and the gunnels support the weight?

The other option I was thinking about would be to just turn the rear adjusters up enough to give me the clearance.

Did you ever ID the thread in the pan? See what it is. There should be a female swivel flare adapter available you can hook a hose to.

It measures .545". That's 3/8" NPT diameter, right?

I looked all over in McMaster, Grainger, and with Fastenal and had no luck. There are plenty that swivel, but not at the joint I need. I need something that will thread in and swivel before the 90, with wrench flats of some sort so I can tighten it without the elbow having to rotate. When it rotates is when it hits.

Any thoughts?

Andy,
You need a straight to flare adapter to go into the pan.


Then a swivel 90 so you can point the 90 in any direction.

The hose with a swivel flare will screw onto the 90.

BTW, the pictures are out of Mcmaster

I think that might work. When I was looking I'm not sure if I considered any of the straight to flare parts, but I could swear I looked at every possible option. Would a local place carry something like that or is McMaster my best bet?

The end of the hose assembly I bought from DIM has the swivel flare, so it should be able to bolt right on.

Look for a firm that makes up industrial hose/hydraulic assemblies in your neighborhood.

I should be able to just buy those two fittings and connect them up to the assembly I bought from DIM and I'll be in good shape. I'll have to be sure to let them know once I figure it out so they could provide what is needed for anyone else in the same predicament.

I ended up sending the hose assembly back to DIM. I'm putting in a regular automotive drain plug and going to get a Pela pump next oil change.

Somehow I missed this post but per our emails, I know you're going with the pump.

However, just for anyone who runs into the same problem, the .545 is a 9/16 thread and goes with the 3/8" hose and flare fittings.
