I have looked over several threads on carpet installation but I still have a couple of questions. I will be installing the carpet into an 89 ski nautique 2001.

1) is there any advantage when installing the carpet in this boat to buying the carpet in either 8 or 6 foot widths?? ( which one is better and why )
2) Can someone confirm that 30 feet of carpet is plenty for this boat to do all carpeted areas?? ( the bottom, the sides, the back panel by the gas tank, and the front air box)
3) Once you remove all the items from inside of the boat, how difficult is it to locate the old screw holes to reinstall the items you removed?? Are there any tricks or suggestions to relocate all of the mounting holes??
4) I see there are may weights of carpet available, would anyone care to suggest a good weight for this boat, and explain why?? I have heard that if the carpet is to thick it is harder to install, is this true??
5) some carpet comes with a pattern to them, does this pattern make the installation more difficult, or does it not make any difference??

Thank you for your suggestions!

1. 6' wide is the perfect width, as its just a touch wider than the widest part of the floor. 8' wide would leave you with a lot of waste.

2. 30' would be cutting it very close. I always order 2.5x the boat's length. 1x for each the floor and sides, then some left over for all of the carpeted panels.

3. I assume you mean the holes in the floor for the seats? I would not bother trying to reuse the same ones- locating them under the carpet will be very difficult. Take some measurements of where everything is before you disassemble, and then do your best to put them back in the same places. Sealing up the old holes once the carpet is out is not a bad idea.

4. The original carpet in your boat would have been 16oz. CC switched to 28oz in '93, and then to 40oz in '04. I cant tell a huge differerence between the 28oz and 40oz, but both are significantly heavier/thicker than the 16oz. The thicker the carpet, the more plush it is, the harder it is to work with (cut, bend, etc) and the more water it holds. Sort of a mixed bag going with thicker carpet.

5. The pattern wont make a difference- but the backing will. Stick with a marine carpet.

Its also worth noting that you may want to match the carpeted portion around the bottom of the motorbox. That would require you to remove the skin and restitch some of the new carpet, or try to match the old stuff.

Hello TRbenj

So what length of carpet would you recommend?? 2.5 times the overall length of the boat, so approx. 50 feet?? or 2.5 times the inside length or around 45 feet??

thank you for the suggestions!
