Speedometer 1997 Sport

Recently both of my speedometers filled up with water when at speed. The water drains out when stopped or at idle. Do I need new speedometers and where can I get them besides the dealer that wants to charge me $532

Explain the problem a little further and maybe someone can give you some advice. Is water actually collecting behind the glass (plastic)? Is it just the internal "bellows" (cannot think of the right word) that is filling up. Either case, the speedometer can be opened up by rolling the speedo on your work table (firmly) while trying to pull of the bezel. Once open look for cracks or breaks in any portion of the "bellows" or tubing. If cracked, I assume you could solder it up.

I have one, possibly two externally damaged speedos that I might be willing to part with at a nominal fee. You could replace the guts of yours.

I think that dual speedos are usually calibrated together or matched. This is probably what the dealer is thinking.

The two speedos on my boat are visually the same, but not matched. Consequently, the speed readings are slightly different, regardless of adjustment, at different speeds. For instance, if I am going 20 mph and dial in both to read 20 mph, then accelerate to 30 mph, one speedo might read 30 and the other say 32 or something. Maybe with matched speedos, this is less of an issue, but not sure. Open yours up and see where it is leaking. Maybe you can solder/braze the leak water tight.

Look for screws on the back of the unit. Other than, I cannot remember.
