Ok.. Hopefully the guru's can help out the noob. I had my boat, 2005 Air 206 winterized by my local SN dealor, hell of a nice guy BTW. So I put it back in last weekend and noticed that about every 2-4 minutes my bilge kicked on and if I turned it off it would get so much water when plaining off it would run out of the engine box. I obviously did put the plug back in it and assured it was super tight but the water still comes in. I leave my boat on auto bilge but am nervous that I have some sort of leak somwhere... Any advice? Any obvious misses? If my battery was to die I am nervous my baby would sink...

Did you replace both plugs, the stern and in the bilge?
If OK is there water coming out of the motor somewhere? Heater core hoses? Shaft packing? |

I wonder if one of the exhaust manifold or engine plugs, that was removed for winterization, could have been left lose or not installed properly. Does it only take on water when it's running?
Also, some may remove the raw water (for engine cooling) hose from the hull pickup in order to feed antifreeze in there. That could be another spot to check. |

There are many places water can get in the bilge find someone who knows where to look to help you out before it sinks.

I've had that problem, once was a popped freeze plug, another time the hose that goes to the exhaust manifold came off. If you lift the engine box with the engine running you should be able to hear water running if it's coming from the engine or something else nearby.

I sure hope this does not turn out to be a bad winterizing by his local dealer - Scott mentioned Race City Marine in a previous thread!
Scott, One of the "tricks" a marina (I feel unscrupulous ones!) will use just to get you back in spring for a "summerization" and charge you again, is to leave parts/hoses disconnected!!!! |

"Summerization" should include someone going over everything. Pete, you ever forget to do something or do it backwards? Last fall I put the hoses on the Mustang raw water pump backwards. Worse than that, it took me a 1/2 hour to figure it out last weekend.

Bruce,
Summerization to me is hooking up the battery and turning the ignition key! Keep in mind, I follow the normal procedure - Fog, drain by R&R'ng plugs/hoses, add antifreeze and disconnect the battery. I do not remove the RWP impellers. So, as mentioned, it's connect the battery and I'm off and boating!! |

Pete, "normal" for who? Thats not how PCM outlines the winterization procedure in the manual. |

From the 1989 PCM Engine manual, page 38, Step N of the Lay Up Instructions: "Remove the raw water supply pump, and remove the impeller. If inspection proves the impeller to be in good condition, store it in an accessible spot for reinstallation at the end of the storage period."
Pete, generally speaking, Im pretty sure its safe to say that "normal for you" and what everyone else considers "normal" are usually not in the same ballpark! |

Betting it is the plug at the stern of the boat.
One other thing, if equipped with a shower and the shower head is left in the "on" position water will still leach out regardless of whether the pump is on or off, probably not at the volume described but enough to turn the bilge pump on. Curious as well what exactly happened, more so because we own the exact same boats! |

I'd call that more than "some" set, but whatever it still works!
My "spare" is the one that came in the boat when we bought it and ran our first 400 hrs. It looks just like Pete's. Put a new-to-me dry impeller in from a cardboard box (no shrink wrap) that quinner dug out of his basement after sitting probably for a decade and have been running it the last 400 hours. |

Just pulled my impeller out this weekend, installed in 2005, looks just like Petes , set but no cracks. Since my spare was a brand new one I installed it and the old one is now in the boat tool kit for when someone else loses an impeller at a reunion. |
