It's the Protec motor. Had the top cover off doing a little cleaning!

Marty, I just read your diary for the Purple Rain. That's a heck of a story!

It's funny that your boat started in the Northeast and headed to North Carolina. Mine started in North Carolina and headed to the Northeast.

Did your boat ever have Protec? From the pictures, it looks like a traditional ignition. I always thought most of them with the Power Plus transmission also had the Protec.

Jason,
John's boat IS very nice. It looks like Sweet77's. Old boats are just that so they will need care. John's 79 is well cared for and thats all you can ask for. It lives on Lake Gaston about a 1/2 mile from me. If you talk to John you'll find a nice guy and he'll tell you what he knows about the boat. Even if that boat's not for you it would be worth a call to talk to him about Nautiques.
Keep looking around CCFan and you'll learn a lot.

John Murphy (Jmurphy) is selling a beautiful 1979 Ski Nautique for $6,500.00 It is listed in the For Sale Section on this site. John lives in Maryland, but the boat is at Race City Marine in Mooresville, NC ( Lake Norman near Charlotte, NC). I rode in this boat at the Lake Norman Mini Reunion and it runs great and is in great shape. It is a good deal for $6,500.00 .

JMO,

Donald

What's your timeline? That could be a bit of tight budget to get into a boat that won't need anything at all.

Your NH, right?

I saw this one the other day at MacCullum's, they were a sponsor for our last NE reunion:
91 Ski Nautique

I read this Insiders Guide to Buying a PowerBoat and found it helpful although they didn't spend much time on direct drive inboards, the general stuff was helpful.

The hardest thing can be just being patient. You either have to wait until you have enough saved or wait for that perfect deal to come along. Get out and look at as many boats as you can, and talk to as many people as you can.

It's also worth telling dealers that you're in the market for a Correct Craft and hope they'll let you know when something comes in. It's not like buying a car where there's tons of them and you'll keep getting harassing phone calls.
