Hello guys,

I am considering buying my first boat. Since the money is running short I am looking for a used one, and I got an affordable offer for a 1995 Correct Craft Sport Nautique.

Do you think this model is good enough as regards to slalom wake performance? I'm not very interested on wakeboarding and I'm not sure if this boat will suit my needs in slalom.

I would like to have your thoughts on this? Can you help?

Thanks in advance,
Regards from Portugal

Depends on what type of skiing and what level. If you are going to be in the course a lot then I would say go for the Ski, if your a recreational skier and do a little bit of everything then go for the sport and take the family/friends along.

This has been discussed a lot over the last few years and everyone has their own opinion. IMHO, It pretty much comes down to what level skier you are and what type of water you will be in (lake/river etc).

Thanks for the quick reply.

I actually just started waterskiing about 3 years ago and I barely hit the course since we have none available near our lake house. (Nevertheless I am becoming an addicted on waterskiing).

I am currently used to ski on a '91 MasterCraft Prostar 190, and I am wondering if I will feel a big difference between the wakes.

Thx

The 91-94 Prostar 190 had some of the best slalom wakes of all time. Even smaller than the Ski Nautique of the same era (1990-1996). The Nautique drives and tracks better though, and has less side spray to contend with.

The 2nd gen Sport Nautique that youre considering has a hull design that is based on that Ski Nautique- but it is 18" longer and 350 lbs heavier. I havent skied one myself, but I would expect the wake to be noticeably larger than the Ski Nautique, especially at lower speeds.

You mentioned something very important that I forgot. I'm currently skiing at 32 MPH, which is a fairly low speed, and I'm not considering increasing it soon. (I think that I'm not even getting the most out of the MC wake at these speeds...)

Well, based on your comments and storm34's, I am facing a hard choice...
But I sense that you are leaning more for the Ski Nautique.

that boat looks rough with the algae stains on. coming from someone who has skied behind almost everything, yes that boat would be fine as long as you aren't getting shorter than 35 off in the course, you will be happy with your purchase. That boat is AWSA certified tow boat.

The boat will have a better wake to slalom behind than a 89 or older nautique as well.

We have a 95 sport nautique and it is a pretty good ski boat...

But we purchased a 98 ski nautique this year and i love the wake so much better. It will make a big difference. I don't think i would be able to go back to skiing behind the sport and do my best

But, ya, that sport is a very good family boat and a good ski boat. It just takes time to get used too!!!

If you really want to proceed and advance in your skiing like i did, then consider a ski nautique. Like a 97 - 99...

Just my opinion...

The water stains are a super easy fix. That boat is clean as hell but really overpriced. 12,000 Euro is $17,500 US.

I would be concerned about blisters on the hull if it was kept in the water for long. Also, overseas, the prices are a lot higher and their are a lot less boats to choose from. We are fortunate to such a large selection of boat in the USA.

Hi everyone,

First of all thanks a lot for your answers.

The boat has 490h.

Your are righ Donald80SN, here in Portugal the selection for this kind of used boats is very small. Also, they are way more expensive than in the US. If I were to buy a boat in the US I would then have to add all the shipping costs plus customs duty (around 23%).

Concerning the wake for this boat, I think I'll ask the buyer to give me a pull.

I was going to say that boat looks in good shape and a good price for Portugal. Most of the boats I see in Europe have thousands of hours, are really beat up and still cost a fortune.

maybe thats true. I haven't really looked in to nautiques from Portugal

But, hopefully the seller will give you a pull. I am going to warn you that it may feel very different, but it is easy to get used too. If you like it the first time, you will enjoy it for sure. They have a smooth wake, jut cut straight through the tail that shoots up at 15' off...

If the owner gives you a pull then I would also suggest that you slalom at 34mph cause as you up the speed you'll want to know if the wake settles down even more.
I went with 81nautique last fall and he suggested that I step it up to 34 and go at 22 off. His suggestion not only felt better but those in the boat said I looked and skied better too. I'm not running the course by any means as there isn't one around but it just feels right and I'm 44.

Tim's right, I normally free ski at 28 off and 34, sometimes 36mph. Puts you in front of everything and is much less work to get across the wakes. I wouldn't recommend it to any novice skiers, but a skier who can hold their edge thru the wakes and has complete control of their ski will be just fine.

Give 34 a shot on the Sport after you try 32. I think you'll find that everything will flatten out nicely.

Hi guys,

Thx a lot for your inputs.
I'll be testing the boat on June 18th. Let's see how that turns out!

Hello guys,

It’s been a while, and I completely forgot to post some feedback on my decision.

Luckily I found a Ski Nautique OB from 95 that perfectly suited my needs. Price was 11.250€ but it needed some parts like fuel pumps. After some mechanical interventions price is 13k€

Here's a pic from the boat.

Best regards and thank you for the advice!!!

According to the 1995 Catalog yes. However the OB has a flat interior, similar to a bed without an opening for your feet.

Here are some more pics
