The back of this boat reminds me a little of my Dad's old 58 Impala... This isn't my father's, but here is a shot of the back of a 58 Impala for comparison... |

HW, I've never seen nor heard of a Hondo Skier. The Original Hondo boat company was run by Irv Brendel, and produced drag boats. Irv was the father of Mike Brendel who now owns and operates MB Sport.
62, Arenacrafts were made here, so I've seen a lot of them. I've also met Dan Arena, nephew of the orginal Dan Arena, several times. BKH |

My neighbor used to have a Hondo. Tons of those on the Parker Strip back in the 70's!

I'd rather have a drink on the rocks in the boat than have a boat on the rocks in the drink. Been there, done that, no bueno.

This was one of my favorite old threads and I stumbled across an oddball today that made me think of it.
Hint: Its a mid engine V-drive. Brian? |

Just don't go off and leave this one in the water overnight.
They like to sink. I believe the jet pump is a Hamilton? No guess on the boat. I do have a fun story about a Turbo-Craft, involving the first sentence in this post. |

Al, Why do they sink? ...assume leaking somewhere? .....no idea on the pump, looks like the ID tag might be gone from the drive? I am hoping to pick the boat up this weekend. Not sure I will find any more info after getting it. .............whats funny the story? . |

Oh, the fun story.
Years ago, (early 90's) A friend bought an old Turbocraft. He owned a Glastron/Carlson, but liked the looks of old straight inboards like my '66-M. So, he thought he was getting the best of both worlds. Inboard looks with a jet for his shallow water further up the lake. We launched from my ramp and went out riding around, having a good ol' time. Came back, tied up, said he'd be back the next day to haul out and take it home. The next morning I went down to the lake to pull mine out of the water. When I got to the bottom of the hill, I noticed seat cushions floating around by the ramp. I just thought some kid had tossed out his cushions. Then looked over towards the dock and noticed his dock lines looked awfully tight and pointing straight down into the water. So, I thought maybe he'd already hauled out and left and was pissed-off because he was now sober and realized he bought a Turbocraft and decided it needed new upholstery. I walked over to the dock to further my highly-trained investigation. Where upon I detected a slight hint of a white Turbocraft shaped object sitting on the bottom. It was at that point when I discovered that old Hamilton jet pumps must really like to leak. So, I guess the moral of the story would be: Don't assume your buddy checked his own boat for leaks before leaving it in the water over night. |

Al, That would be a pretty "sick in the stomach" feeling to see your boat below the water.... while the thought of at least trying it out on the water has gone thru my mind, the main thing I'm after is 327 Graymarine engine and its accessories. ........ Trailer and parts "For Sale"! |
