So we had a few hours of wakeboarding yesterday and after the final run we store all the gear. We go about 5 mph for a minute and then as I give some throttle the motor is reving but the boat is not going over 12 mph. 12 mph is the exact point where it feels like the transmission is slipping. There were no issues during any of the runs before that it just started out of no where.

We checked the tranny fluid and it was not full but was over 3/4 the way full.

Any ideas?? None of us are mechanics but we all seemed to agree it felt like the tranny was slipping. I tried 3 times and it happened every time. After that we just went 10mph back to the dock.

Thanks for any help

I don't know much about transmissions either but I do know Eric Lavine is the resident expert. You should be able to find his profile information. I know he has rebuilt transmissions for many. You just have to pull it out and ship it to him.

i dont think its a level issue, the boat is an 84 and has provided 25 or so years of service, its tired and needs some botox

Well when I bought the boat 4-5 years ago the guy gave me a tranny and it has been in the same box that long. If I where to pull out this one and install that, what do I need to check for since it has been sitting for so long?

It might not be low fluid but it also might be, mine slips if it gets that low. Get it FULL and try again though it might already be done for.

Never thought of that before. :( Hey eric can you email and we can talk about maybe rebuilding one.

Is there a way to check out the boxed tranny without installing it?

I see that you recieved the trans today. Let me know how bad she is when you crack her open. Hey I think the return zip is screwed up on the label. It should be 28214.

Thanks again!
