Ok, here goes. Check out my boat. Many of you have seen it. Did a complete restoration job last year. Kids are getting bigger, the boat is small. Got an opportunity to buy a 2002 MC Prostar 190 for $13.5k with 130hrs. Would you sell my boat and pursue the MC? Had my boat 22 years. Be easy on me, if I did not have kids and running out of space, I would not consider it.

Assuming youve thought about the economics,
Boats are just plastic and metal, kids only want to play with you for a short while. Thats my calculus, fwiw. |

The best calculus takes into account the wife variable.... I assume you BOTH wanna do this for more comfort and space? Why upgrade? There are reasons I have my Tique and reasons I have the 206...Val is on board with all of those.... Now to just talk her into a third boat......

Nice area of the country, Roanoke. I sometimes travel up I-81 to New Jersey. Nice mountains to the east. Thanks for the comment. Just don't have the space for two boats and financing $13k. However, I will run it by her |

Good, you had better.... Easier to find a place to park your boat than to park your stuff if she isn't happy!
Ps.... Lemme know if your in the area..... Well have fun! PPs...... I might know a good new home for your skier ... |

Scott that is a tough call. After rebuilding my boat I would have a hard time parting with it, but if the right deal came along its hard to say what I would do. The Skiers are tiny and it is really tight with the 5 of us in it. We have our system down and have learned to deal with the space issues, but there are many times it would be nice to take another person out, or just to have more room. I assume the 190 is comparable to a Ski Nautique - 19' and 6 person capacity? I bet you can find a nice post 93 Nautique for $14k.

I agree with your PPs. I have had multiple offers over the last 22years and you would probably laugh at the highest offer I have received because it seems out of line. I'll tell you privately what the offer was if you are interested, fwiw. |

How old are your kids? You could find a nice 2001 boat for half of that MasterCraft, or a decent NoWakeZone closer to 10.

Thsnks buddy. The other day I had two kids, the bimini top up, two coolers, three tubes, three ropes, cushions, kneeboard, water skiis, wakeboard, etc. and we looked like Sanford and Son on the water . My boat is about 66" wide at it's widest and the MC is almost 86" or 88" wide and 3.5 ft. longer. The boat I am looling at is a 2002 with 130 hrs. Nothing is for sure yet. I may drive it saturday and think about it some more. The way my boat drives now, it's hard to think about giving it up. |

My son just turned 11 and my daughter is 9.5. The ONLY reason this whole thing came up was that this MC is 9 years old with 130 hours, garage kept and maintained by MC techs since it was new. I heard about it through a friend of mine if it were not for his email, I would not be typing this at all. |

It is going to be hard to find anyone on this site to recommend the MasterCraft especially over a Nautique. If time allows and you want to stay faithful put some effort into later model Nautiques (post 92) and see if you can get one comparible in year to the MasterCraft. Otherwise do what works best for you. BTW I have 2 kids same age and we manage fine with a closed bow Ski Nautique. We Ski. wakeboard, wake skate, surf and kneeboard with this boat. Godd luck in your quest.
A 2002 with 130hrs for $13.5 is a good deal. Don't forget the price of a trailer if you need one and it's not included. PS I went to the diaries and your skiier is a sweet looking boat. It would take more a Prostar to get me wanting to buy. |

Scott, this is just my opinion so take it as a grain of salt.....
You've got a beautiful boat that you've spent countless hours on bringing back to life. It has become a part of you and your family. The best part is the stories that come along with the hours of labor, and the fact that YOU resurrected the boat. It will never be a "me-too" boat out on the lake. It is truly unique, a classic. Anyone can go to the dealership and buy a brand new $70,000 boat and have a badass ride, but it takes a true connosieur to own and drive a classic, a piece of boating history. If it were me, I'd keep it. I'm only 37 now but I have a profound respect for all things antique, stuff today just isn't built like it used to be. |

Scott your boat is beautiful and you made it that way yourself. That feeling just cannot be replaced. That being said..you gotta go with what works for the family.
john PS: did you have any 'Branum' relatives in the Cleveland Ohio area? |

Update:
Saw some pictures of the MC. In a nutshell, there is nothing spectacular about it. It is an ordinary MC with low hours with a little rust. The dash is plastic with screws and it fits 7 people vs. 5 in my boat. Bottom line is would I get rid of my boat for that boat? No. Would I buy this boat if I could keep my boat? Yes Would I regret down the road selling my boat for this boat? Yes It's a nice boat and a great deal IF I did not have a boat but having my boat for 22 years and doing what I have done to it is really not what I want to do. Thanks to all who commented. Your comments helped me make the right decision. Scott |

Scott - You won't regret your decision. There is always another great deal down the road if you get the itch again.
True story - last year I was at a gas station when someone came up, said that they used to have a boat just like mine & had traded it for a M/C. They said they missed the SN & regretted the trade. |

As far as I am concerned Correct Craft stopped making boats in 1999. My next boat will be a 197 TT. |
