my last question was "anyone know if the 83' had a strainer in the tank" well yes it does. not at the bottom of the tube but at the top.
my boat did not want to run at full throutle this started after replacing float bowl screews and some gaskets in the carb. it just seemed like it was running out of fuel thats what promted the question. come to find out i had the only gasket in the world that was missing two holes. got that fixed but she still would not go, so i looked at the carb some more, the fuel filter, line, pump, tank, and back to the carb. replaced alot of stuff and finaly decided there wasnt anything worng with any of that. sorry so long but now for the fix. a michanical advace spring did it all. now she pulls stumps and at 45 mph. i hope this story will help someone it helped me just to tell it |

Glad you fixed the problem. Its always a good feeling to finally figure an issue out.
By the way, where was the mechanical advance spring? Are you talking about the distributor mechanical advance? |

ya inside the distributor there is a small or lite spring and a hevey one. the smaller of the two was in many peices. talked with correct craft parts guy at buxton marine in tx he didnt have a part # or know where to get one. nautiqueparts has them on line. mechanic there says same springs for all years up to the GT40. FYI

Question about this... Mine had 1 spring intact and 1 in pieces in the distributor. On the Nautique Parts website it says "for 1987 and up". I have an '84. I replaced the cap and rotor and found this broken spring. I made my own from a larger spring and so far it seems fine, but it isn't one large and one small spring.
Would these springs work for my '84? Nautique Parts link |

opps i thought there was a link from this site but dont see it. just type nautiqueparts.com white lake marine opperates the online store.
shipping is the bad part 10 bucks for springs is high but 18 for shipping wow. so think of other things you may need, filters, waterpumps etc. to offset the shipping cost. |

Was it like a cone screen?
I've found them in old centurians , first evidence of them in nautiques. Good find. Another debunk of the mysterious 'vapor lock' people like to blame it on. |

I dont think distributor mech advance springs are marine specific. Most good auto parts stores should carry a selection. Im not well versed in distributor tuning but there are many articles on line explaining the finer points of spring and fly weight modifications. Summit and jegs cover the basics
