Looks like CCFan is going to be well represented at this years Buckethead Barefoot race. For those who are not familiar with the race, it's a 38 mile barefoot endurance race on the Maumee river.

Buckethead 2011

Talking with organizer, Brian, aka Buckethead, there are now (14) teams lined up. We had (13) teams last year, which made for one of, if not the, largest barefoot race starts on record. This year should be freakin nuts.

We are taking two teams, Burning Soles, and the Young Guns. Tim Cochrane (sorry Tim, I forgot your CCFan handle) is bringing a team (no neopreme boots), James (87BFN) is bringing his python, pulling Top Gun from Texas, Patrick Felgner is bringing his Martinique, and a few more who will chime in. If I remember correctly, last year there were at least (5) BFN's.
The race is a blast, and the pre and post parties are not too shabby. Hope to see a few CCFanners at this great event.
Play hard, life's not a trial run.

Yes, registration is closed.
I'm guessing there will be a couple of teams looking for footers. I'll post if I hear of anything.
Sometimes there are teams looking for boats. That's how James got hooked up with Top Gun two years ago.

Yup.... Putting a team together. August and September sure is going to be busy for me as far as skiing. Buckethead 12-13 aug, slalom tourney 14 aug, lane bowers comes in 17&18&19th. Right now I'm in the process of putting together a figure 8 tournament which will be on September 17th.

Jordon
You are right; the Buckethead is a great event. It seems as if Brian has got this thing growing exponentially. We are bringing two teams, Burning Soles, and the Young Guns. Hopefully the river level stays up so that we can run all (14) teams in one race.

I've heard that the Lockwood race may be taken over by some guys out of Grand Rapids (MI). The guy (Rob Petersilge) who has run it for the past few years moved to South Carolina. I will try to get info on the situation.

This is a list of the teams running in the Buckethead. We are bringing teams 2 and 6. I think James is pulling team 3 with his Air, Tim (watrski) is team 11. Is anyone else members of any of the teams. If so, what type of boat are you running?

1) Callaway Barefoot - Michigan
2) Burning Soles - Michigan
3) Top Gun - Texas
4) Hot Shots
5) Top Gut - Indiana
6) Young Gunz - Michigan
7) The Wolfpack - Indiana
8) The Maumee River Barefoot Team - Ohio
9) Captain's Reality - Indiana
10) 40MPH - Ohio
11) Chippewa Lake Watersports - Ohio
12) Mach V - Missouri
13) Bigfoot - Indiana
14) Shattered Glass - Indiana

I am running on team 8 With the Local boys. I believe we are running a Malibu Response. I laced my foot open pretty good so we'll see if I can run, might have to be a designated driver.. I'm hoping for the best..

I think capt's reality is Brian and the gang they run a barefoot Nautique.

River has been clean, and about normal level for this time of year.. There isn't many dead heads either..   We will of course mark the sunk island and the shallows with balls again. The no wake zone bouys are not there either. should be a clean run.

Now.. if I can get my foot and my Tranny fixed by then we will be in good shape.

Too bad Steve, make plans for next year's race.

Rip, I have not heard anything about the Lockwood race. I will see if Brian (Buckethead) has heard any rumblings.
You are right, Captain's Reality is Ben (Captain) Morgan's 89' BFN. I'm not sure if Brian will run with them, or one of the other teams. He has raced with a few of the teams from the area, including Capt Real.

Steve

I just went on the Barefootski.com website, and they have the Lockwood as (Unofficial). I just emailed Rob to see if he is putting that race on. I will post here as soon as I get a reply. If that race is on, our team, or both our teams, will be there for sure.

DHart
Like Rip said, there are guys out there who will run 15+ miles. 10 years ago, I met a guy who could run the boat out of gas. If I recall, his name was (Steady) Eddie Johnson, from one of the Carolinas. IMO, a good run is 2+ miles. My runs are less than that because of a blistering problem on my right foot.
Last year the winning team (Top Gun) ran the 38 miles in around 52 minutes. The last place team (Top Gut) was somewhere north of 2 hours. But no matter where a team finishes, they all have a riot, even Brian (Buckethead), who split his head open (requiring stitches) within the first few miles, and finished footing while bleeding profusely.

Thanks for the info Steve. The endurance races look like a blast. I learned to barefoot at the North East reunion back in 08 from Tim Benjamin then have had an annual lesson from Brad Harper at the other NE reunions. I started skiing long line this summer and have been thinking a race would be fun to try at some point.

I just received an email from Rob, the former host of the Lockwood race (prior to that, the namesake, Scott Lockwood was the host). He is not able to host the race due to the fact that he moved to North Carolina this past June. As of today, this race is not being held. The information on Barefootski.com was posted in error.
If anything changes, I will post a new thread.
