Bent Propeller

I saw the topic earlier "vibration when accelerating" and searched around to find answers and not much luck. I have somewhat the same issue and have a few questions. I hit a rock or hit the bottom the other day taking off in what I thought was plenty deep water. From then on I felt a pretty strong vibration regardless of speed and pulled a boarder and the speed would fluctuate just a little while pulling him. I pulled the boat out and examined the propeller. It has a small ding and looks like one of them is bent slightly. I rotated by hand and the shaft turns freely and looks straight but have not done any tests. Can a bent propeller cause that much vibration??? Is it ok to take it out with this vibration until new one comes in. Any tips on what to search to find ways to check shaft straightness? A bent prop can and will cause vibration. Try 'runout' or 'dial indicator' for your search.

How far would you drive your car with a new vibration? A slight vibration shouldn't hurt much, but a bad vibe can make a mess.

Also I have an 88 SN the tranny says 1:1.23 i think I wanted a 542 acme prop but I am not sure if that works on my tranny...

I'd say it's possible you have a 1:1.23 (PowerPlus). Maybe you have a late 88. Do you have a muffler and a single hole exhaust? It seems like all of those things came together. Also, if you motor sits relatively level, then that's another indicator that you could have the PowerPlus transmission.

If you have the Power Plus you really don't want the 540 and you definitely don't want the 542, which is an even lower pitch. Those are meant for the 1:1 transmissions. Your engine would be spinning waaayy too fast. Acme's page is here: ACME Ski Props

The 654 and the 1792 are very much on the small side for the 1.23 boats. The 2001 hull runs quite a bit faster than the 90+ SN's, so they tend to need larger props to keep the revs in check. Unless you load the boat down with a substantial amount of ballast exclusively, then I would suggest something a bit steeper. With a prop that short (14.25-15" of pitch), you'll give up a lot of top end speed and turn quite a bit more RPM at all skiing speeds than youre used to. You'd have a wicked holeshot though! For a good recommendation, tell us a bit more about how you use the boat, as well as what type of performance you typically saw with that 14x16 (before it got banged up).

There were no 1.23:1 boats built in 1988, to my knowledge. Ive seen one or 2 around, but they were retrofitted with a LH motor and the newer tranny. PCM and CC marketed the whole "Power Plus" package in '89, which combined the reduction transmission with the large single outlet muffler. I suspect your boat is either a '89, or the 1.23 powertrain was added later. Pictures would likely tell the whole story.

It says 88 on the title and 123/1 on the tran. Maybe it was added later. I dont ski at all only wakeboard. I never really go over 30 mph so I think the 1792 will be good. I plan on having 1200 lbs. ballast plus riders. Its a RH rotation as well.

I have 2 exhaust outlets and the motor has ben rebuilt but I was not told about the tranny. Will post pics later.
BTW I ordered a prop from Deltaprop and was charged twice and now I cannot get a hold of ANYONE

Looks like a '88 to me, though there are a lot of things that previous owners did, which deviate from the way it came from the factory. Im sure the engine/tranny combo is one of them.

That maroon stripe is not original- so its most likely been painted. To remove it, you either need to use a paint stripper or sand it off.

The original gel coat is probably underneath it, but it's also probably the same color. If you can find a scratch in the paint you will see the original color.

If the gauges are in a straight line it is a 87 model. The 88 has the same layout as the 89 with the gauges in a more scrambled position on either side. Can you supply us with the HIN number? We can then tell you exactly what year and month it was built.

If you do have the 1:1.23 trans. From some testing we have done a 470 prop would be well suited to a loaded wakeboard boat.
