I have never been a boat owner until now, and I bought a 1996 Ski Nautique close bow. It runs great but the belt squeeks a bit. Can anyone refer me of how to tighten it. I am mechanically inclined on a car but I dont want to hurt my new boat with my lack of boat knowledge. Any help will be welcomed. TY

Same principle as a car without a serpentine.
Half inch deflection. |

Easier than a car really, since you don't have a radiator, fan or any other craziness getting in your way.
I don't think anything puts quite the load on a belt in a boat that a car would. No Power Steering or AC Compressor. |

Gary - Check your belt to see if it is 'glazed'. If it looks shiny on the sides, then I would spring for a new belt. Take the old on to NAPA or other reputable parts store, don't get one made in china!

I also suggest getting a "X" type of belt. They are the ones that are knotched on the inside. They require less tension to do the job. Your are less likely to blow bearings.

SkiDim or Nautique Parts will sell you a Belt Set all set to go for your Ford Engine.
Not necessarily better than mentioned above, but you know you'll have the right sizes. |
