Mine has a Mallory, I just took the points out and replaced it with the electronic, kept the same distributor. I got an Accel coil for heat and vibration which has a gel inside instead of oil, and a set of $90 Accel wires. I didn't have to change the coil or wires. You'll see a difference with the electronic ignition, best $90 I ever spent, alot more response in the throttle.

you can either get the coversion kit or replace the whole distributer with the latter costing more. With the conversion kit you don't have to get a new coil doesn't hurt but not necessary if the budgets tight. You can get a coil with internal resistor and bypass the ballast resistor, but at the very least if you use the old coil and it has a ballast resistor get a new one. And read the instruction for the kit and use the specified type of coil/ballast resistor.
