here is what the first few times should look like.
this was 2 yrs ago and Nicole(11yrs) has only been out 3 times since and a couple days ago she tumbled up on a 3 foot rope/handle off the boom. Amazed both me and Roy. Her mom is still not relaxed enough to get her glide on in the swing. In fact she regressed some. Roy shot some vids but we didn't get her tumble up. She said she was just going to drag like in the above video but as I dragged her she gave me a look that I knew said GO FASTER so I gave her a little more and she tried to tumble but got caught and sent back so I yelled PULL THE HANDLE HARD TO YOUR HIP and she just spun around (on the wrong hip) and planted and stood up! It was awesome. |

my EZ footer handle is definetly shorter than the one there...I need to add some loop to make it hang farther from the boom....

yes I had it custom made by www.lakeelmosports.com
Charles charged same price as an EZ footer. I had bought an EZ footer and it was about 12 inches long! I sent it back and had them do 24 inches of V and 36 inches overall. it works well for kids and adults. |

So made it out with Hollywood, his brother Kurt and Johnny. Good to be on the water, but as it seems to be everytime this summer, work got in the way and I had to rush to get on and off the water. Forgot my shorts and tape which turned out to be a horrible combination filling my sinus' with water...
Anyway, I seem to be going backward with my skiing. I can't figure out what it is, but I can not get comfortable on the water, it feels like such a struggle to stay up, the spray is all goofy, can't control my feet. When I look at the video though, aside from the spray hitting my feet it doesn't look to bad. By the way in addition to being the first time on Powers Lake, it was also the first time behind a Barefoot Nautique. That was awesome, no rooster tail, the propwash is soft and gentle, didn't pull you in. That was really cool. Thanks a ton Johnny! |

Here is Kurt's (PLBC) run. Hopefully we can get out again tomorrow and get some more video's. Weather is perfect for skiing, water though is getting cold. Probably a corelation there, more color on the trees, cooler the water...

nice Andy!
lol had some nice barefooting on saturday, early session, water was awesome, no boats around. Couple of runs, practicing one foots, holding with one hand, kinda worked on both sides, but i think i´m leaning back a bit. Weather was nice, no need for the drysuit. Now on the suit I noticed its holding water, instead of gliding its dragging thus all surface tricks are hard to do! Also did some runs on the shoes skis, and got to do some interesting side slide! yeah! Have some footage from the go pro that I will upload later.... Anyway I will be on hold for a while (at least with my boat) as the tranny finally let go...its slipping under load....will see if its worth rebuilding it or ordering a new one! boomer! |

Are you sure it's topped off with fluid? My tranny is old, but when it's cold and under load or a hard right turn, it slips. I keep it at the full mark, minimum.
Don't worry about the suit drag, surface tricks are boring anyway. Nice video Andy, that is Seipel right? What have you been skiing behind lately out there? I notice Roy's boat is for sale, is Willie's Response back up and running yet? |

Well. as the glow of the Indian Summer in California slowly cools off, Sheridan Oaks Ski Club also closed for the season. I got my last runs out there Friday. It was glass, no wind, not another boat on the lake. Sorry, no video, just me with my wife driving.
This season will still continue for me as I hope to ski through the winter. However, when the club closes until spring, it is hard not to think that a chapter has finished for the year. This season was one of many firsts for me in barefooting: first one-foot wake crossings, the line step position, front to back on shoes, reverse back one foot (finally), backward wake crossings... a good year to say the least. What is next? How about back one-foot wake crosses and back toe holds? Yup. |

Nautique is on the block for sale. I may take it down until spring. Mostly bargain hunters out there right now. Don't throw me off the board for this, but I have had my eye on something better for barefooting than the Nautique, namely a '96 Sanger DXII with a Black Scorpion motor, or a Malibu Sportster preferably with a Indmar Monsoon engine. The crazy wake that comes off my SN at 43.5 MPH has not helped my progress skiing behind the boat. At 70' the wake is complex and trecherous to say the least. Willies boat is on the water; I skied with him last Thursday. |

Sanger, OK.
Malibu, Adios! I had a decent year, lacking photo evidence once again. When the skiing conditions are the best I don't have a spotter or their hands are in gloves anyway. -Flip turns and step offs were solid, either side and behind the boat. I even got the hip turn figured out, which is just cool looking. Next I'd like to take the turn off the wake. -Back wake crossings OK. Deeps I get up all the way behind the boat and pick a side then just go as long as I can. I'm becoming much more aware where I am and able to somewhat move around now. -On the shortline: back 1 reverse (finally for me too), reverse front toe hold, and the big one... back to front! I don't think I'm going to push anything backwards because I don't wear the neckbrace in the drysuit. Probably spend the rest of the year cleaning up the footing I'm already doing, endurance runs, trick skiing and shoe (show style) skiing. skutsch got a drysuit so now I have a winter footin buddy. I do have some pictures and video to edit, this will take some time though to get posted. |

last tues me and roy were going out to ski my Sanger in our Lost Slough and it was low tide and somehow I hit something underwater very hard with the rudder and bent the sucker, didn't touch the brand new Acme 13x14(THANK GOD!) we poked around and never saw a thing.
willies boat is back up and running well. between me and willie we put 6 engines in our 2 boats this year!!! So I really learned how to R and R a small block LOL |

Sounds like a good year hollywood. Nix on the Malibu, eh? Hard to argue against the Sportster though: 50-55 MPH with the Monsoon, 48 MPH with the 350. Killer wake. Wedge for the wakeboarders in the family (I have 2 going on 3...) Sanger would be my first choice. Hard to find though. I know of a 2004 BF Sanger coming on the market, but he wants 25K for it. Yikes...
Where does Skutch live? is he in the San REMOVEando valley, too?? |

Ok, guys sorry I have been off line for a while. Frickin work has been crazy but I did manage to squeeze a vacation in the last couple of days, more on that in a moment.
Before we left, me and a buddy, Dan, got out with Hollywood on Powers Lake, guess it was about 10 days ago. As I said, work has been awful and it has become pretty clear that if your head is not into skiing, things are not going to go well. So other then the part where HW is skiing around backwards this clip is pretty much just a bunch of crashes. Now before everybody gets all excited, yes I know, I need to let go, trust me what you are going to see below is an exception (in regards to hanging on after a fall and this is a very bad example of what NOT to do). Its what happens when you get all wrapped up in troubles at work and try to take it out on the water - not a recommended plan... Anyway, order of appearance, Steve (skutsch) Dan, Steve and then Hollywood. At least the lighting and sunset is nice... |

Roy; HA! I won't rat out Hollywood, but I live squarely in the midwest. Between Chicago and Milwaukee. Hence the need for dry suits... |

So took the family to FL for a long weekend vacation and a much needed break from work! They all decided they wanted to swim with Dolphins (the G2 I got was that was like drinking from a fire hose) so I convinced them to allow me to go skiing. So I had a day long session with Lane Bowers. If nothing else it was just good to get a day and do nothing and think about nothing other then skiing.
The really great thing is we got the whole backwards (bacerds) barefooting thing down. While I can't say its perfected at least I was consistently able to see the horizon by the end of the day. Lots of practice in store. It was just me and Lane in the boat for the day, so pictures were scarce. Below is the extend of the video that we accomplished. (its kind of funny). |

HA! Thought you guys would get a kick out of that. So thats the result of beginner skier, great driver/instructor who's motto is "no fall learning", and an attempt to live up to that promise AND take video. Guess something has to give with all that multi-tasking... |
