I recently purchased a 1999 Super Sport Nautique that came with a 60 day warranty that is about to expire. Sometimes when I go to start the boat, when I turn the key the starter makes a click but nothing happens. After doing this about 4-5 times, the boat turns over. The marina that I purchased the boat from said that this is normal due to moisture in the in the starter. Is this accurate? Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
Thanks!! |

Without hearing the actual 'click', I would guess that what you are hearing is the starter relay. The normal culprit is low voltage to the starter. I assume the battery is fully charged? Check and clean the battery terminals and the connections to the starter as well as the terminal post near the circuit breaker. Could be the relay itself or the starter going bad.
Not buying into the moisture story. Think about the location of the starter in your car or truck, it is subjected to tons of moisture almost daily. |

I'd secind th elow voltage comment I would uess corroded terminals at the battery or even the starter solenoid. If cleaning doesn't work I'd replace the solenoid.
