Eric,
The charts you posted pretty much tell the story. A sad story for US, however. The only bright side I see is that BCBS has created a lot of jobs.....at my expense. I guess they should for the $1,810 per month they charge for the policy for me and my wife! When I add on the cost of the deductible for my meds for diabetes, hypertension, athrosclorsis, and heart disease it starts to add up. Without the affordable health care act I would be near my lifetime limit too after 5 surgeries and heart stents I have had placed. Anyone without insurance or substantial financial resources to self pay would not have survived. I am glad to be here for my wife and kids, and that old Mustang needs me too. |

Doesn't the "Cost of a Long Life" chart show 2-8 years longer for the US than all the other countries? That would indicate what I've always heard about most health care cost being borne in the final years of life. Who decides when enough health care is enough, especially when its to efficiently use the group of "rate payer's money".

No, you are looking at the cost of care graph (the red line). We win hands down in being the most inefficient. The longevity graph is the blue bars. All countries to the left of the US on the graph have longer life expectancies.

So whats the solution, We had average inflation of medical costs going up at 12 % a year for the last decade, but when we "fixed it " with Obama care it is now going to go up at 13% a year. we cant afford what we had let alone the fixed version.

Cuba is really notable on the chart. We spend about 20X what they do per capita on health care and reap about 6 months more in longevity.

You are aware that only several small aspects have taken effect and the Republicans stripped many of the provisions from the bill, aren't you? The solution is a system like France or Canada. Single payer insurance. With all the money being siphoned off by those trustworthy chaps at the insurance companies, you remember, the ones our clueless leader, Bush, gave $700,000,000,000 to. They then ran out and had extravagant country club celebration parties and bonuses for everyone. That's right seven hundred billion. its no wonder we can't afford it. |

I dont know about you guy's, but I surely dont want my kids changing my diapers, why the fck would someone want to mess with mother nature and extend life? i dont want to put the kabookey on me, but, the 80's crowd is not a very active crowd and somewhere in the DNA, there is a voice saying its time to go, sustaine is one thing but if they promised me i could bang 3 times a week than i might consider the extension.
It really is ashame that we want to go about our daily lives and not notice or not even offer a solution to the HC industry, or if someone makes a suggestion on reform its shot down because they see the dark side. I didnt read the bill, but i dont think it was proposed as a way to get rich, they are getting rich now and thats the problem I see and the charts solidify this, I have a feeling if Perry was preaching reform the right would be all for it, put that right/left bull*************** aside and use your own brain to think, numbers dont lie, with the advances and technologies we have we should be at the bottem of those lists and not paying a fcn dime out of our pocket for Healthcare in this country, were not living to a 100, so saying we have the best HC in the world is a bunch of bullsht, Healthcare is a profit center, profit breeds greed. I recognized the HC situation long before the chosen one took office, its a fire hose running out of control and you guys keep preaching, but, but but,.....Obama didnt create the crises, I know he sees this problem the same way i see it and is trying to get it under control |

If Bush was clueless(And he was, the government has no business bailing out private companies)for spending 700 million, what does that make Obama ans the 2 trillion he has spent on bailouts? No wonder we cant afford it. |

Eric, you are right, when they do the price will only rise, they just dumped long term care because it was not fesable, the rest of the plan will follow, Eric, do you know what industry has risen faster than health care? Education, I noticed no dems want to reform that. You guys a re a solution looking for a problem, you want increased spending, taxes and government, and whatever you see as a problem that is the solution you apply. Unfortunatly we are now broke from your solutions.

I wanna pull the bull*************** healthcare out of Iraq and Afghanistan, we've slipped so far in education that i dont even wanna see the graphs that dont lie, groups will do what benefits the group, just like CCF here, its no different in politics, my veins dont run democratic blood, i see faults on both sides of the isle, the finger pointing has got to stop. you got kids, right? what do they do when you catch them red handed? they start pointing fingers, the recent debates are pitiful, they should be ashamed of themselves, what ever happened to united we stand? its fcn time to start working together because the other way just doesnt work

Health Care and Education have very high inflation rates because they have been systematically subsidised for decades with other peoples money.

I would normally agree 100%. Then I saw a news clip where a Cain staffer was having a hard time keeping up with Cain in what looked like a parking lot. It was comical; wish I knew where a link was. Cain has been where you mean Eric. |

No insurance= no problem?
I just lost a friend Saturday night. He had been my friend since 7th grade. We ran track together in High School, rode bicycles together, boated, and shared many interests including golf, skiing, and running 10k races. About 15 years ago he had bypass surgery and other health problems. 2 years ago he lost his job as a civil engineer. He sold his motorcycle, toy sports car, and bicycles as his money problems mounted. He continued to seek employment unsuccessfully and took jobs as a bar tender, bicycle mechanic, and several other positions without benefits as he looked for employment. About one week ago he called our mutual friend Tom. During the conversation Tom told him that he should see a doctor because he didn't sound good. Terry told Tom that he didn't have insurance or the money to pay a doctor. He had lost it with his job. Terry thought he would get over his bad cold. I got an email on Sunday informing me that Terry was dead. It really is tragic. Terry called a friend Saturday afternoon to say he was having trouble breathing. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago where he died later that night. I hope whoever is elected can get universal health coverage. If you really believe in this country don't you believe we can do as well as Canada or France. I am starting to doubt it. 57 years old with many interests and friends and no money to buy health care. A tragic statement of our lack of compassion for our fellow citizens and human beings. http://m.legacy.com/obituaries/chicagotribune/obituary.aspx?n=terrance-l-daly&pid=154261144 |

according to the latest poll John, 50% make under 26k a year, what is the figure 45 million without health insurance...I feel for you, even at the worst your friend couldve got in the long lines everyone claims to see a Doctor, you know, im from Ohio and the other day I seen 3 cannons heading north on rt 271 on the back of a truck, really dont see this sht around here, im thinking to myself, those 3 cannons were built to kill people thats all, it maybe brought a sadness, we waste the energy and resources on this ***************...and we cant find it in our hearts to let a guy, your friend to get the help he needed.
sometimes I just dont get it, sorry for your loss |

John, Sorry to hear about your friend, Sounds like a proud, hardworking, standup guy, we can't afford to keep losing those types. Just curious, some of this is chicken and egg stuff, Do you think your friend would have preferred a medical handout or a good job with medical coverage?

So now apparently have King Obama, ruling by edict with his "just get it done" Program. Our constitution spells out that new spending comes from congress, and gets signed by the president as part of the balance of powers. Obamas job plan was voted on by congress and rejected as the wrong plan at the wrong time. So Obama is bypassing the constitution and funding his bad ideas with executive orders. Not really "just get it done", more "just do it anyway" How long before he suspends voting by executive order and makes himself king for life? For you Dems that are happy about this, how will you feel if a republican gets elected next and starts cutting medicare and social security by the same method?

Yea, who needs a good infrastructure. Let all the roads go unrepaired and the bridges fall like they did in Minneapolis.
One in four bridges in the United States is either structurally deficient and in need of repair, or functionally obsolete and is not adequate for today's traffic. The Highway Bridge Program (HBP), the primary source of federal funding for bridges, provided about $7 billion to states in fiscal year Full story: http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-10-930T |

Maybe they are like NC where the Governor takes money from road repair money, gas tax, to balance the budget.
A Judge finally stopped this practice. Last 2 NC Govs have taken money from the Education Lottery and from the DOT roads and bridge money. We now have some of the worst roads in the country. Maybe they should balance the budget by cutting spending rather than taking from infrastructure repair money and Education. |
