Hey Pete, be fair, Walter's employees and parts policies might be lame and their unit old school but they have proven pretty durable.

Really? Why did CC dump Walters? Old design and not having the latest and greatest real gear cutting ability (spiral bevel around since the 40') The bottom line is, they are not the best out there. I'd be surprised if they make it though this depression. The only thing saving them is the high mark up on their BS "special" bearings!! BTW, we haven't seen "BIG MOUTH DON" from Walters on here lately!! Don, where are you?????? |

What does CC have to do with the quality on the walter unit? The Borgwarner V-drive unit was also available at the time (and from the 70's or so) and they installed the Walters. CC installs what's good for their business. I think I mentioned their design being old, but that doesnt mean it's a bad or low quality unit, just old tech, there plenty of boat running with them. If we were to stick with the latest and greatest this site wouldnt exist, dont you think? |

I have no idea which way their business is heading, rarely see the units anymore in anything new, must be frustrating.

Nautiques did not "Dump" Walters! PCM came out with a all in one unit. And because PCM was Nautiques OEM motor supplier the decision was to move over to the PCM unit. But only after numerous months of in the field testing. Having been on the design team that brought forth the Super sport that spawned the Nautique V-drive trend, of all the units that went into the field thru out the Walters run I can tell all that the Walters V drive is tough as can be for the amount of abuse that they have to take. The Walters has a great track record for reliability and smoothness. rest assured that the walters unit will give many years of service, change the oil regularly, keep the motor aligned properly all will be good! |

PCM and Indmars both marinize GM blocks, wouldnt they both install ZF units? The Power plus Vee and the "ski vee" look Very similar... Eric would the 10-04s have been a better choice unit than the Walters at the time? |

Century used the 10-04's in their ski-boats, shorter stack-up, 1 dipstick, 1 cooler, you tell me.
Luch, if you have 2 things that do the same identical thing, but one is half of the cost....which is a wiser choice? that is in regards to my pcm is a label maker, not a manufacturer, some say they have a PCM engine in there, some say I got me a Ford engine in there. |

Exactly, a guy was checking the 210 I was putting together yesterday and asked about the engine, he thought I was kidding when I told him "it's a V8 chevy 350"... on a 100k boat???
