Plan on replacing the 4" exhaust hose on my 89 SN. It's a straight run from the invertaflow to the stern. I ordered the soft-wall hose but when it arrive they had packed it by bending it in the middle so it has a kink in it. I can somewhat straighten it, but you can see where it was bent. Not worried about the cosmetics as I'm sure it will straighten/unkink over time, but am wondering if the kink has weakened the hose in that area? The whole point of replacing it is so I don't have to worry about it for as long as I own the boat - don't want to have any doubts.
BTW - having a great time now that the boat is safely in the garage for the winter. Have everything out that can come out, so by the time spring rolls around it will be 100% up to snuff. Need to keep an eye on the checkbook though, it's way to easy to replace everything.
Thanks
Ron

It might be OK, but Im not a fan of the softwall at all. The corrugated stuff is minimally more expensive and holds its shape much better. The long 4" run youre referring to was pretty ovaled out on my '90 when I replaced it a few years ago.

You can take a heat gun and heat the bend area and stomp the kink out, after installation and a few heat cycles you wont even know it had a kink.
Nothing wrong with the soft wall we have been using it in the exhaust of Nautiques for over 30 years and to my knowledge no failures. Hoses are items on boats that owners frequently overlook because the boat only has 300 hours on it. But!! The boat is 20 years old. Very common customers will come in with their 1998 SN and their hoses are trashed and weather checked, These are conditions that can cause a bad weekend experience on the lake.
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

Sounds like it shouldn't be a big deal then.
I'm definitely on board with the fact that rubber doesn't age well. That's why my winter project is to replace all the hoses (exhaust, water, speedo, etc), belts, etc. Same thing I do on used cars I buy. Cheap money in the overall scheme of things, and I'd much rather do it in the comfort of my garage, than in the rain with the kids screaming at me :)
Thanks
Ron
