I'm looking for slalom skiers opinions of the best boat CC made, prior to 2006, for slalom skiing. Which one has the flatest wake and best for skiing a course? I've heard many people rave about the 2005 196, but I'm looking for something a little bigger or with an open bow/crib....thoughts??

You have a choice. Either the best slalom boat (any 196) or a bigger boat with an open bow. I am guessing that the 206 would be your best bet without compromising the skiing too much. Your question might have been better stated as which is the best non 196 boat for skiing.

As A Slalom boat the bubble back Ski Nautiques were about the best ever built for slalom skiing. Add the fact that the boat could be had as an open bow also lent it to being a more friendly family ski boat.97-01.
I am now keeping my eye out for a roached out one for a re-furb. Their is a 98 in O-town that fits the bill. |

Technically, the TSC1 hull was used through 2002 on the SNOB.
^^Totally agree.^^ The best slalom wake prior to the '06 boats would be the '02-05 196 (TSC2), followed closely by the TSC1. If you need an open bow, Id say Jody is correct with the SNOB (TSC1). If you need a larger boat with an open bow, Id say the 206 ('03+) is your best choice, followed by the direct drive Sport/Air. |

+1, not to mention classic looks AND if you happen to know any trick skiers, they will not run away screaming. That said, the SNOB is a compromise in wakes and interior space IMO. Not a fan. Same running surface but unique motor position and shaft angle- I definitely noticed a difference in wake vs. my CB TSC1. Might have just been between my ears. Are you committed to CC or are you open to other mfg's boats? Because if you were to say what is the best open bow boat in the same price range as a pre-2006 CC by any mfg I'd have some other suggestions as well. |

Sounds like a 196 is what I need...trying to find a SNOB with low hours and not abused is next to impossible. Got my eye on a 2005 196 with 230 hours, 330hp, one owner - super clean and really what I want, but my other half likes "the space and open bow" of our 95' Nautique Super Sport. Not a bad boat, but as an old school Nautique guy, I want a direct drive. Thanks for the input guys.

How about keeping the NSS and picking up an early NWZ Ski Nautique?
I'd call some dealers if you are looking for a specific [project] boat. There tend to be a handful of ragged out boats sitting in lots unadvertised. |
