Jeff, nice choice on the stainless Hi-tek's. Don't know if they are much of a performance upgrade, but damn they sure do look nice. John

no problem here, just a suggestion, they are much louder higher up on the transom, unlike the guy's that run no mufflers near the waterline

Eric!!! I don't think CC offered the "silent choice" as an option. You do know we have to keep these boats original!

no on the 5200, merc uses bellow glue to hold it in,
the silent choice gives you the option, idling down the river its nice and quiet at night when people get pissed off, with the flip of a switch you can go right out the thru hull...at times the noise is annoying and fumes for the guy out back....do some reading on it, it gives you the option of going down thru the outdrive or thru the hull at the flip of a switch
plus when your side by side with someone with them going thru the drive and hit that switch its like turbo boost, goes from quiet to loud and you pull away lol, it was just a thought because ive had some loud boats (thru hull not baffled by water) and the passengers at times will make comments, negative

Hi Eric! a couple answers for ya! yes on the round seal on transom, yes on the new gimble[ no grease fitting] new coupeling, with antisieze, and the cabels look like new. the out drive only had a few hrs on it when purchased. tree took out boat it was on. should i 5200 out drive on transom? or is round seal good enough. why silent choice? im not 50 yet people around here like the noise, only cause thay leave the lake when the sep comes out

take my word also on putting a new (merc) shift cable from the drive up, if they drag one bit the boat will hit the interupter switch and stall out going into reverse.
sorry for all the babble, but just trying to get you past the learning curve

also, make sure the splines on your drive coupling are intact, its the piece that is a damper like molded rubber that bolts to the flywheel, change many of those over the years because they are aluminum splines, pack it with never sieze on install

if i were to build a boat like this, there is nothing you are doing that i would change, i for one am very impressed at the work you are doing and the the added strength you are adding to the drive line

if you change the gimble bearing, the one from merc no longer has a grease hole to grease it, normally i will get the bearing from napa because that one is still a greasable bearing...i think we also talked about the alignment tool, i see them on e-bay often for 20 bucks, the bearing is a spherical bearing and the inner race will move and often throwing the mechanic off while aligning, very critical to get these drives aligned properly, if you know this already, dis-regard

love the backing plate, some think with rotted transoms the drive will blow right thru the boat, it will actually pull from the boat. nice job, do you have the merc cathode system?
do you have the new round transom seal? it is round when its new and fits in the groove
