Dripping Dripless Shaft Seal

Last weekend noticed that there was water in the bilge of my Tique after a day on the water. After further investigation I found that the supposedly dripless shaft seal was dripping while the shaft was spinning.

Any tips on why this might be happening and how to fix the problem?

It's ether an alignment problem that you will correct when you get the trans back or a bent shaft that I also suggest checking. In ether case, you'll need to install a new mechanical seal. It could also be damaged if it had ever been run dry. You haven't been running the boat without water being hooked up have you?

What drip-less seal do you have?
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

The shaft is brand new so I don't think it is that. It must be an alignment issue. It also has not been run dry. Where can I buy a mechanical seal. Thanks!

No one can help you until you tell us what kind of "dripless" system you have installed.

It is a PSS Dripless shaft seal.

Also the drip is coming from the end on the right side of these pictures and when the shaft is spinning. Thanks again for any help

Second: I have a feeling you need a new "mechanic"!! You already have a trans problem with this guy! Is he a I/B or O/B "mechanic? Also you never responded to the question about the boat being run without water. If out of the water, no water and run in gear, it doesn't take much time to screw up the carbon/ceramic mechanical seal.

Pete, he says here it has not been run dry.

Purchase at the ususal places, SKIDIM etc....

Pete, since that style of dripless packing pulls water from the engine to lubricate the seal, I would imagine that it wouldnt be as susceptible to damage as a normal packing gland, if run dry. Still a bad practice, though.

I would call SkiDIM and see if they sell replacement seals for the PSS system. I know they sell them for the OJ dripless system.

Yes, I understand where the water comes from on a dripless. I guess I didn't phrase my question well enough. If he ran the engine dry, then the dripless is not going to get any lubrication. I've had plenty of mechanical seals apart. It really doesn't take much to screw them up. The seal faces can look perfect but you put them back together and they leak!
