Joe. Your post about festivities really got me going. As a newbie it sounds like everything I love (bare footing and beer)! If my daughters don't make it to the state speech meet I am now going to try to leave a day or two sooner. Won't know that till mid march. Thanks for the pep talk!

I'm certainly not one of the seasoned veterans, but last year we kind of camped out at a spot on the river and used that as the base for the early morning footing. That seemed to work pretty good. Not too many boats were actually moving, so as to keep the water nice. Nonetheless, I look forward to meeting more folks and learning as much as possible.

Eddie, this is from the day your engine got sick. Now I'm kind of curious to know how many minutes a month he uses.

That should not be a problem Eddie. I'm sure there will also be a boat hanging around that you could also jump in and head out to meet us. I'm not a barefooter, but I'm plan on being out there early also, because I love to see the early action. If you need a ride I can shoot back and grab you. Of course, that means commandeering someone's boat (probably one of Reid P's) to make it back, since I'm flying in.
[/QUOTE]

No problem Murph. I'll actually have my boat there so I can always use that. I didn't want to get too many boats around a bunch of footers. I was also figuring John would then have a boat to come meet everybody when he's finally done socializing.

This could certainly change completely as soon as we get there!!! Nothing carved in stone by any means.

Stace & I and the security (our 4yr old German Shepherd) will be leaving early on Thursday so the plan is to be rolling in at Parramores by around 9am.

Sounds good Murph...I hope to be there by 1:00 if not earlier.Plan on only stopping for fuel in South Georgia and maybe a quick pitstop to let loose of the mornings coffee. Will probably stop at the turn in for Parramores and put up the CCFan banner I have from last year roadside so newbies know their close to the event.

Joe's "no plan" schedule makes me want to bump my flight by a day and get in Wednesday evening. We'll see. (BTW - thanks for the loose schedule. I know it helps me. I'm sorry to be missing the fried festival on Wednesday night.)

Tim Morfoot....it sounds like we should be arriving around the same time on Thursday (unless I'm able to bump my flight), so maybe we can hook up if the guys are out on the river.

We can do dock pickups at Parramore's, and Blairs on the way out, start time will depend on weather. Later arrivals we will pickup at the blackwater as it is on the correct side of the no wake zones.

Guys,
John and I are planning on getting there about 8AM on friday. I'm sure that we'll have to get some food refrigerated at a minimum before we can start playing but I for one would love to hook up with you. I don't want to commit John to anything but I think we could probably talk him into it also.
The biggest problem I have will be as soon as John starts seeing everybody, he turns into a social butterfly and getting him into a barefoot suit at that point will be very difficult. I may be calling one of you to come pick me up!

Billy, did your computer get tired of all the SJRR traffic on the site and quit on you?

Hollywood...hope it works out in favor of a trip to come down and play with us.

Jonathan....no worries my friend, you don't need a boat to hang with us as there will be plenty available to catch a ride in. First time I met JoeinNY was at SJRR a few years back as he just drove up in the rental car, parked it by the ramp, jumped out and said "Hey, I'm Joe Fennessy... can I hitch a ride?" picked him up on the dock, tossed him a cold beer and we've been friends ever since.

Joe, I for appreciate the long post as I too am dragging the boat down for an overdose of watersports, boating and etc. Thanks for the breakdown and you and I both know that most of the weekend we just play it by ear but still kinda sorta come up with a "plan".

Plan is for me to leave before the sun comes up Thursday morning so I should be there by lunchtime.

LOOKING FORWARD TO IT FANS! DON'T MISS IT AS IT'S GONNA BE A GREAT ONE!

Joe, great overview. It gives us newbies an idea of what to expect. Its helpful to know where people may be, especially those of us who will be relying on others for on-water transportation.

I'll pack a barefoot suit.

Thanks for the input Billy but while the boatdr is undoubtably a marine professional, JoeinNY is a recreation professional... this is what I do, please don't be offended if I do with your recreation advice what you would do with my motor repair advice.

The intent of my post is to share just enough planning to make sure people know what they might experience should they come down.... and make sure that they know where to go and who to contact when they get down there so they don't wander around by themselves when they could be hangin with the fans! I hope you don't feel I was trying to dictate to you what you must do with your vacation.

I have selfish reasons for all this of course.. I like to meet and hang out with as many people as possible, and I try to make sure they have as good a time as possible so that they come back either the next year or another event so I can hang out with them again. But, it is a victimless crime, so until the fun police catch up to me I don't plan to reform.

I have some good news and some bad news.

Bad news: I am not going to tow my boat down and stay overnight.

Good news: I am going to try and stop in for a day to at least have some fun.

I received a letter in the mail yesterday stating that on March 25th I am getting inducted into the National Honor Society for my MBA. They tell me if I do not show up for the induction ceremony, I cannot be a part of it.

Is it OK if I stop in for a day to meet all of you?

This is not the Joe River Run, you can't do that stuff.

Someone else is already in charge of the no plan.

I'm kinda crossing my fingers that my west coast trip gets cancelled, which means I might be able to join y'alls.

I don’t think quite everyone knows who I am yet, but I do like meeting new people so that is a goal of mine. I sure hope to meet a few more this time down on the River. Those who do know me know that I travel all over the country for these things primarily for three reasons: Good people, good times, and good boats. So where you find those things generally you will find me. As for the keg, it has often served me well as a place in which I get to see the most people come and go… but this is a multiple day affair and some of those days people I am looking to meet won’t have a keg to look by…

So for purposes of coordinating with old friends and giving possible new friends an idea of what goes on down on the river ( although they should also check out past years threads for pictures and additional details).

Here is the current JoeinNY plan – like all JoeinNY plans it is subject to revision due to airline delays, mechanical failures, inclement weather, better than expected weather, territorial alligators, hangovers, beer/food/gatorade shortages, rumors of good talent at the glen, cougar sightings above the blackwater, bona fied reports of spectacular roadside BBQ or fried chicken anywhere along the journey, etcetera, ex post facto, iebriato.

Monday March 19th –
East Coast Convoy Gathers in Mooresville NC.

Tuesday March 20th –

East Coast Convoy leaves Mooresville, NC heads through Columbia SC, Savanna GA, Jacksonville FL, and eventually arrives at the River house in Astor FL.    Expected Arrival time – between 8am and 11:30 PM.   Depending on who we get to come along and how long the back tire(s) on Reid’s station wagon hold up in the face of excessive BBC parking lot burnouts.

Expected characters - Joe (joeinny) , Reid (reidp), Laurie, Chris (storm34), Alicia, Whitney, Chris Hansen, Pat (Picturepat),   and anyone else we find along the side of the road.

Expected Boats - Two of Reid’s rigs and my 83.

Wednesday March 21st – Astor Fl

Morning activities- breakfast – provisioning .. etc.

Afternoon/evening – Stuff – it will still be early on so this would be a good time to run the river, see the glen, take a monkey run, or piss away an afternoon drinking at a river front establishment.   Basically a good time to engage in the somewhat anti social behaviors without missing out on too much socializing.

Dinner – Likely some serious fried food from the local fryorama – Essex Seafood Two..

Night – River house Party anyone who can make it should come on over. If the campground won’t be expecting you yet perhaps we can find some floor for you. John Morrow (NautiqueJohn) and Curtis from Moorsville should be on their way down after work on Wednesday. Tim Benjamin (trbenj) and Melissa should be arriving late, Jeff Swedish and his girlfriend from PA will be coming into the area likely late evening or early Thursday morning.   Morfoot? Billy? Halston? Others?

Thursday March 22nd

Morning activities- early morning footing/boarding/skiing likely on the river in the large open area just south of the Blackwater INN. We had excellent footing conditions there each morning last year! This is south of the campground through a couple no wake zones, under the bridge, past the blackwater INN and just a little ways the river opens up out in front of a small island. Spectators raft up near the island - depending on numbers we can run one boat or two with a little coordination. Gator and fishermen repellent provided by the sweet sounds of dual exhaust.   John is planning on pulling down Curtis’s BFN, so between that and the 83 we should be covered. Jeff Swedish is a longline footing machine- backwards and forwards, and he inspires some serious footing efforts from all in the vicinity. Nautique John is no slouch either, we will have Chris and Tim around.. I expect some nice footing to get done. (although I don’t recommend the river for trying 3+ multiples.. that might just be a taunting the gators a little too much.. we will have to save that for a calm afternoon on the lake.   Jeff will only be in town Thursday and Friday, and the weekend doesn’t really lend itself to dedicated footing time so if you have an interest in watching or participating in serious footing I recommend coming out early and catching the Thursday/Friday morning sessions. (This means you Jbear and Eddie!)

Afternoon/evening –John Murphy aka Jmurph comes in around noon time so we will likely stick around central river area until after lunch then, depending on weather we will likely move out to the lake/glen in the afternoon, or run down the river.

Dinner – Thursday night looks to be the best bet to hit the Blackwater inn upstairs. Bret and Stacey will be arriving for sure… who else.. as far as I am concerned everyone with the means should be doing their best to get to the river no later than Thursday night. We will probably make dinner by about dark-thirty on Thursday.

Afterparty – At the river house – we will use the ping pong table and kegerator for their intended purposes.

Friday March 23rd

Morning activities- again river/watersports – footing heavy see above:

Afternoon– This is the time to hit the boat show if you do that kind of thing. I am more of the if it aint really nice out then I will head to the boat show type… If not glen or run around the lake/ personally I plan to surf the heck out of the bhectus boat since they will be in full effect by then.

Dinner on Friday will be at Parramores @ 10.00 per person Starts at 6:00 – sign up.. meet people arrange rides for the next morning. Everyone will be there so the late evening events we can play by ear.

Saturday March 24th

Saturday plans are discussed pretty well here.. run then parramores. This is the day to be social, everyone is there Saturday!.

Sunday March 25th

Sunday is the laid back day – breakfast and Buck and Kats is nice and allows you to see and send off those poor souls who have to get on the road early.

Sunday afternoon is a great time to hang out at the glen, it’s a weekend day so good weather will bring out the locals and our group is likely to be smaller by then so bring the sunscreen.

Monday March 26th.
Only the lucky ones will still be around

We are under a month!

But plenty of time left to buy plane tickets or take extra days off people – if the caravan is going through your neighborhood and you want to jump in let us know!

Anyone have any specific questions about area or any of the attractions and don’t want to post here feel free to give me a call at 315 567 1273 or an email jhf6659@yahoo.com and I will be happy to do my best to find you an answer.

Hey Jody... Have you talked with Les and Cindy Todd lately and asked them if they were planning on joining us again this year? I'm sure when you checked in on Art you asked him if he was coming and if he was bringing the 62. Do you know anything by chance?

I'm still working on it, I am trying to work things around my classes so that I am not missing too much school. I really hope I can make it, it sounds like a blast!

It aint too late until we have all gone home!

This is just a bunch of good people getting together to hang out ..

there is the ability to register to pick up some swag and make some money for the site, and there is a dinner and there is still time to get in on that..

But even those who miss out on that stuff are always welcome to come on down to the river and give or catch a ride.
