I have a 1972 correct craft single axle trailer and have had it for two weeks. The person I got it from neglected it and it needs new hubs. I think the spindles might be ok. I can't find any hubs anywhere with this bearing combination. It has a much larger inner bearing than the outer and I have looked high n low. In fact...I may get away with just one hub...I'd rather do that than have to get a whole new axle...any thoughts?

Welcome Craig. Not knowing what you actually have for bearing size I can only guess. Look here towards the bottom of the page for hubs with 2 bearing sizes. I have bought from them before and have had good results.

Well...the inner is a LM48548 outer is a L44649. its a 5 on 4 3/4 stud.

I looked at the link u posted...maybe the answer for me is to measure my spindle? I did see some hubs on there with that off set but it didn't really say what the bearings were...only the spindle measurement.

I'm really surprised at the problem. The bearing # should tell all. If not, bore,OD and width is the key. Plus, there have been plenty of threads on the problem and they actually have the bearing numbers listed!!

Suprised at the problem? Bearing numbers? I have them...I posted them. I just thought maybe someone here could tell me where to buy a hub with that combo on the internet. It's an odd bearing combination...but thanks

heck...then again the bearings I pulled out might not even be the correct ones. They had the wrong seal in it and the races are shot....they just spin in the hub by hand.

Can't guarantee it but i think your spindles are 1-3/8 x 1-1/16. That was a common size for CC trailers with different size inner and outer bearings. You could pick up a complete set of bearings and races for those at just about auto parts or tractor supply store as they are very common. Little more work than replacing your hubs but less than half the price.

Maybe it's a 5 on 4 1/2 stud pattern--- The brg # can change. Northern Tool has them in stock probably. Get the Ultra-Tow Hub. Is the spindle straight or tapered? Get higher # weight capacity.

Hub

Or if this one hasn't got the grease fitting on the inside of the hub, get the one that does.

If you can't figure out how to post pics yet, send me some in an E-mail.

it popped right up with a search? I clicked on it...that's with an inner/outer L44649. I pulled out a LM48548 for inner and a L44649 outer. I have been looking for that combo for a hub. I actually bought those bearings with the new races on etrailer...the problem is the hub is too far damaged. The races will not sit in the hub correctly...I've even tried "staking the sides of the hub with a chisel and using loctite. It's just in too bad of shape. So I started looking for a hub with that bearing combo...It's kind of strange that I can't seem to find one.

ok...so I got a mic and measured the spindle. It's 1 3/8 by 1 1/16. I'm thinking maybe someone installed the wrong inner bearing? It was a LM48548. The only info I have found on that bearing shows it's for a old agricultural trailer. I did find that a L68149 is more common and also is a 1 3/8. I am told one is wider than the other however. It needs a new hub for sure but I guess I will have to measure the length of the new with the old to see if it will sit on the spindle the same. I am not sure if these ol trailers were dexter axles or somthn else. I spotted what I think I need on etrailer but maybe I compare with a local dealer to be sure.
