I gave it to a repair shop.
He told me the inside (not the cap or rotator) short circuit and burned? Also last year the ampere meter came out to mutch and after 5 minutes the main power switch came out. in Holland there arent to many specialist so i do not trust people working on it to much. I will ask him tomorrow what burned and make a picture. I know there is a lot of corrosion inside, because i have the boat hole summer in the water (and it rains a lot in Holland). Also I tested it in the boat and it short circuit. |

well It sounds like the points shorted out. No big deal just replace them and the condenser and make sure that it didn't arc weld the mechanical advance plates together. Don't understand what your trying to explain about the amp gauge and ignition switch. It didn't rain to much the last week of July my girl friend's mom got a little sick from the heat when they where there visting their family for two weeks. She said it was the worst it had ever been and was glad their cousin had AC.

It looks like the repair man doesn't know what he is talking about. i will visit him tomorrow and make a picture. The points and condensator where new.
The weather has changed it poors down every day now. last year when the engine was turning station no problem. but driving fast the amp meter went to maximum and after 5 minutes the red main swich came out and the engine stopped.Only driving very slow i could make it home. So there must be something taking power, i thought it could have been the distibuter since it short circuit, or is this impossible? at first i thought it was the regulator, i replaced it but no change. Than i tested the electric power maker also good? Also the plastic part on the points melted? I replace them every year. But maybee it is better to change the distributor into a electronic anyway? |

Hmmm. Sure seems like your alternator is not being regulated properly and outputing more than 14.5 volts or so. Unless you find the route cause of the failure, I think you will just ruin a good electronic ignition module in short order.

I would say your regulator is still bad that's why the ampmeter pegged it shoudn't go over about 20-30 amps positive regardless of the speed of the engine. I would upgrade the alternator to a newer internal regulated model that SKIDIM sells. That's your main issue I see and you need to fix that before you melt down the electrical system with to much voltage. Double check the wire's condition for melted insulation burnt spots or shorts through out the intire wiring harness. Messing with the dist right now isn't going to help your just going to burn it up again until you get the electrical problem fixed. Also just in case, it is a 12v negitive ground system.

Agreed. Again! What are we going to do? The next thing that might happen is that the battery will explode

That doesn't look that bad. You need to remove the two screws and lift off that top plate and inspect the mechanical advance and make sure it moves freely and isn't rusted up. You should be able to hold the dist shaft and rotate the advance plate and have it snap back into position, inspect the springs as well one should be loose and the other tighter and look a little different if they look the same then they should have the same tension as well. other case is fine just different advance curves.
Where are you getting the dist from? I know shipping is higher put not 200-300 more. If it's taxes then maybe you could send the cash to one of us and have us buy it then ship it to you to get around that. Another option is getting the conversion kit to replace the points provided the mechanical advance is working fine. Can you get a new cap and rotor in Holland for dist you have? what about plug wires? |

I think it is better to buy a new one, I found a company in the US who sells the original and will send it.
http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=eBasicPower&Category_Code=MER10K It is only US 189,00 Which one do i need: 1. Prestolite Points Distributor for Ford 351 Left-Hand (same as automotive rotation) or 2. Prestolite Points Distributor Right-Hand (opposite automotive rotation) |

neither don't waiste your money on a points style dist get a new electronic version. A mallory YLM-554-DV or a YLU-554-DV. going back to a points dist is only going to give you head acks all of the the time and I doubt you have a dwell meter to set it correctly.
you need a reverse rotation or RH dist provided the engine as not been changed look at the gear and compare it to the other post showing the gears direction for LH and RH in the genreal forums thread summit racing has the dist for a little over 200 bucks. |

I spoke to summit racing and they advice me:
MAA-29216 Ignition Coil, Canister, Round, Oil Filled, Chrome, 51,000 V, Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth, Each $34.88 and MAA-YLU554DV Distributor, Marine, Unilite, Mechanical Advance, Ford, 351W, Reverse Rotation, Each $309.95 Is this correct? Do I need anything else. Some one told me I need to take out the resistant which is now before the coil. |

Hi Grim
I think the R at the end of your serial number is for right hand rotation. CCM 6641R If you verify that your prop turns to the right when looking from behind you're all set. The Summit info sounds right The instructions should tell you whether or not to bypass the resistor. If the dist gear goes like this ///// it is LH rotation. If it goes like this \\\\\ it is right hand rotation. keno |

Ok, i am going for the right hand.
Thank a lot guys, you make me me enthousiastic on this boat agian. I have it for it for 10 years now, first for my two boys who are now 26 and 29 now. And now for my second life children who are 13 and 14 now. I restored a Riva aquarama number 773 in 2002, but had to sell it because on the lake where i live the maximum boat size is 7 meters. Also for a riva you need a boat house because of all the wood. My riva went to California. This is a nice opportunity to make this boat look good and working good again. On the lake i live we have many nautiques, but little people who know a lot about the engines. We also have many Boesch. You can only go fast after 18.00 hours but than you see many from my window. Thank a lot guys and if i can help you i will! |

Jeg's is always a little cheaper. I would also look at the Pertronix brand. They offer everything you need with very good tech support at usually a lower price.

no need to post twice and jeg's is fine as long as they don't have to order a marine unit that isn't on their shelf then your screwed, Summit racing has no issue with marine parts and actually list them in there catologs, something Jegs doesn't do.
