Tracy,
Are you sure it's the trans making the clicking sound and not the damper? Without the engine driving the trans pump, there is no internal connection in the trans to lock up the clutch plates in ether forward or reverse. Hopefully you did install a new damper. Now's the time to do it if not. For some reason especially on the OEM PCM damper, they are pretty short lived. Their spring pocket design is poor (stamped round bottoms - you do not want the ends of springs in a round bottom) so the springs will break. Did you check the damper?

Welcome to CCfan. When are we going to see some pictures of the project? We always ask and actually demand them!!

Do, please submit pictures and text for the diary section as well.

im assuming you are talking about damper being on or part of fly wheel, noise is comming from front of trans in pump area when either in put or output is turned while not connected to engine.

Tracy,
The damper is the spring loaded flex coupling from the flywheel to the trans. If the noise is not coming from it, you should consider having the trans rebuilt. The best out there is Fantastic Finish Marine. If you did not put a new damper on, your have made a BIG mistake.

A new damper will run 90 to 100. I think FFM gets about 750 to 800 for a rebuild.

You were "assured all is well" from a dealer? Well, that's new one on me!! As mentioned, without the pump supplying oil pressure to the trans, nothing inside is coupled!!

They rebuilt the engine??????

Luch.
As mentioned, only if there is pressure when running to lock up the forward or reverse clutch's. The only lash I would expect is from the clearance in the reverse planetary gear set. Sorry but I don't think you would hear a "click" from it.

have you been there feeling the click? why so eager to send him over for a rebuild on something you havent actually seen... some lash is normal.

lets agree to disagree on this one.
