Any thoughts on removing rust on chrome wheels. I started on one wheel just to see if I could make it any better and it did to some degree. It does appear to be surface rust...well at least most of it. I used a soapy brillo pad and it removed almost all the rust around the outer rim, but hard to get to the inner part. Has anyone had any success in doing this.

First wheel is after the brillo pad...2nd wheel is what the first wheel looked like before I attacked it.

Philip,
The rust is there because the chrome is gone. Now that you have even removed more with the steel wool pad, the rust will come back even quicker. Have them re chromed or buy new wheels.

Pete's right (as usual). They are too far gone. And the brillo you used may have cleaned the one up some but in the long run will be worse off since you just took off the protective chrome layer that was left. Mine looked just like yours, I decided to cut my losses since my tires were shot as well and got 2 new aluminum wheels and new tires mounted and shipped for $398 to my door from www.trailerandtruckparts.com. They were great to deal with and quick shipping. pics are in my BFN thread here:

fortunately the tires are brand new. The PO purchased them just before I picked up the boat...so wheels are all I need. I will spring for some new ones..no big deal but figured if I could get these cleaned up it would save a few bucks.
