'81 SN getting restored. Looking for a product to replace the carpet. Heavy traffic skies,boards,tubes,fishing and water taxi. The boat stays wet all summer stored on covered lift.
Found:Hydro-turf.com, looks nice Garage floor mat, looks strong Anyone have something they love? David |

Hey Rover,
You know a lot of folks on this site treat their boats like museum pieces (I'm not quite there, but almost). However, I have a neighbor, with 98 Air Nautique. He leaves the boat uncovered most of the time, let's his kid fish out of it, and generally is not concerned about the dirt etc. When the carpet gets too dirty, he sometimes, runs a steam cleaner over it, very quickly. Most of the time, he just hits it with a hose, and uses a small broom to scub at it. Not how I would do it, but my point is the carpet is pretty darn durable. His is 8 years old, and when cleaned up, it still looks pretty darn good. Something to think about. BKH |

Lowes has good prices on Marine grade carpet. Why they have carpet for boats I have no idea - but they do.

Did mention I hate carpet. My boat is beige, carpet is nasty when new, add 4 kids and friends and 2 dogs.
Hydro-turf is a product they use on PWCs. Close cell foam, soft, good traction. Take a look hydro-turf.com Also thinking Flexiteak.com very cool product but $$$$.00 Garage floor mat comes in in a diamond plate look 7'X16'and larger...not kidding...ordering for garage and shop. |

Rover, that flexiteak stuff looks pretty sharp. Might add some more class to an older Nautique and be very easy to maintain... my 2 cents!
 I have an 81sn and the carpet was replaced about 12 years ago and its time for a change to. But then again I need to replace my stringers and the floor before the carpet...

Linex is brittle, tough on the feet but comes in a lot of colors. Rhino liner only comes in black hot hot hot Still trying to talk them into colors. i have a friend who has a 84 tique who took all his carpet out and had fiberglass sprayed in to match the color of his boat looks great but not having carpet doesnt muffle the engine noise and its a little loud. if you can handle the noise its great and easy to clean..

If you don't like the carpet get a different color, heavier pile or brand that you do like. I doubt if the hydro-turf stuff is going to last long, seems like it would be cut or tore after a couple of times the ski is thrown on the floor, its just a foam pad and they never hold up. The spray in line's look like crap and are dangerous, (slippery when wet). Personally carpet is the best way to go then again if you don't like cleaning up your boat and would rather wash it down with a hose and soak it with full of water. knock yourself out .02 |

When you have 11 boats in your garage,1935 Garwood (wooden),1939 Thompson(wooden),1940 Thompson(wooden),1943 class C racier(wooden),1956 racing hydro(wooden),1981 Correct Craft,14'Boston Whaler(glass),Hobie(glass),etc.. You'll understand why I want the best product I can find. And (I) take care of them. Yes, it sucks to be me, but someone has to do it. Hydro-turf does not look like it will hold up, sure feels good on the toes. Teak planks look nice... too much to maintain. Lanolium will not hold up to UV rays Marble will crack Granite will crack Slate works well on my roof.. it will crack Copper works on the 2nd floor sun deck maybe. Sorry it's been a long day. I was just messing with you, but a teak and holly floor does look sharp. My neighboor had that on his 34ft rinker last year, it's easy to clean but would require some elbow grease in the long run to keep it looking good. I've just never been a big fan of the spray on stuff or foam tracktion type products out there. I would think that your best bet might be to get a heavy weight berber that would hold up over the long haul.

Glad I found this sight. As for matching with the dogs one is black and one is brown and not long for this world. Just getting old , I'm sure the next dog will be a different color, my luck red. No worries BC. Talking about messing around, it's taking me 5 month to find a good block to rebuild the engine in the Gar Wood.That one will be painful, shipped it off to NJ to get done. Rover and out PS I've got the Flexiteak down to $29.00 a sq. foot. Better than $42. still hurts |

I am the same way rover. Anyone can restore a '60s car. The boat is a different animal and lots of fun.
My next project is a '60s car, however, that matches the boat. How cool would it be to pull a '68 CC Mustang up to the marina in a color matching '62 Impala SS with a 409? |

My buddy Dave had that last year on his cruiser's burth and steps leading to the topside. The holy was like a pin stripe (3/16" W) in between the teak and on the steps it was raised 1/8-3/16" to provide tracktion when wet. And it does look extremely sharp everyone would drull when they saw it. I could call him andd ask who there supplier is.

I'm in the same arena as Rover and would like to get this topic back on top. I HATE carpet as well, and need to replace it anyway. Hydroturf is great, but I've tried it before and it will last for a short period of time before it starts chipping and getting ugly. Teak and stuff is not my thing.
I was considering removing the carpet and just painting the floor with epoxy to get a nice flat glossy surface. I would paint it with non-slip paint and voila: A clean boat with just a quick hose. Any tips or experiences? |

remember most of the time carpet also keeps your feet nice and cool. In my Stingray we always throw the snap in carpets in before going out. flat hard surfaces absorb heat too easily. I also considered some form of spray in bedliner material until I got in the back of my truck on a hot day and lit my feet on fire. As mentioned about Lowes carries marine carpet, they call it indoor/outdoor. Much much cheaper than any boat site I've come across.
