I am looking for some advice on my 81 SN. I have spent my summer sorting out several problems left to me by the PO, and I believe I am pretty close to having it right. I have a nagging problem with the idle on my 351, so far this is what I have done, set Timing to 6 degrees BTC, adjusted Points, Plugs, Rebuilt Carb and set everything to rebuild specs, I also previously replaced one Piston, and the Lt side Head. I am having a lot of problems getting it to idle until completely warmed up, and it has a slight stumble pulling from a stop. I have read some posts that say the Timing should be 8-10 degrees? I am kind of new to the 351, because my 70 SN has the 318 in it.

Yes, 8-10 is best. Also set your air screws when idling in gear. Off-idle will improve.

Make certain there is noi slop in the accel pump linkage, too.

You make have a vacuum leak too.
