Smarts, education, ambition and resonsibility. Most teachers and public service employees couldn't be doctors, just like most of the rest of the population. $1,400/day ain't that much considering all that they had to be and do to get there, and they always have to be on their game. You're getting crazy. Great picture Kevin, heck of a double standard out there. |

You have a really distorted perception of doctors. I have four in the extended family. They are not the hardest workers or the smartest people I know. It's a job, just like the teachers and public service employees. Many school administrators and some teachers have PHDs and are every bit as qualified and educated as a MD. Outsourcing is the next logical step. There are plenty of doctors out there. Forcing them to compete in a global market is already having an effect on costs. The fact that a patient can go to India and have a knee or hip replaced for less than 1/2 the cost of the same procedure here including air fare and housing is testament to that. Our system is really screwed up and most doctors here are paid far more than their value. Why do you think qualified doctors try to stay in the US?

Yea, the Republicans know how to make a prop and photograph it. I don't see it in the context of any delegates. |

My favorite MD is my nephew, a cardiothoracic surgeon. He has the older Supra I have some experience with. It was his 15th birthday present. He is an amazing athlete and Skier, probably on par with some of you on this site. He also likes my Mustang project. I can't wait to take him for a spin next summer. |

That was one republican who was soundly criticized by the rest for his stupid statement, but you know that. Love the contradictions in the DNC platform. Women deserve equal pay and can do anything a man can....except pay for their own birth control, they need "the man" to do that for them. They must feel so proud to be seen as that independent. |

Ha, you are right about one thing, Repubs ran away. Even those like Ryan, and with his record, well it's amazing he has not been run off yet. So why is viagra or cialis prescribed but not birth control? And why do men, who never take the pill get to make the decisions about who pays for it? |

John, Medical tourism is big here too. We get many from Canada who have illnesses that can not be treated in a timely manor. 70% off is not a great deal if you die before you can get treatment. By the way, that is a subsidized price that people are getting, and not subject to US malpractice, taxes, and patents. We have the Mayo clinic in Minnesota that sees Cuban diplomats, Saudi princes, Japanese business people all paying full price for the best care in the world. The Saudis are known for renting entire hotel floors, hiring limos....they are great for the local economy. Earlier you commented on the great rates the government gets, those are subsidized by private pay patients. In the ambulance industry we would do the math. the government rates were set, and we would adjust the private rates to make up for the loss on the medicare transports. That is industry standard. To your original comment, the government has been cutting physician reimbursement for decades to save costs, all the while giving raises to government employees, so what makes the government employees so special? |

Well first of all the pill is prescribed, I assume you meant paid for by insurance. Impotence is a medical problem and birth control is recreational. like treating impotence, we pay for hormone replacements after menopause as women age, but no one ever paid for my condoms. Second, how sexist are you to think there are no women in the medical and insurance industries who determine the rates? I heard countless times in the DNC speeches (Yes I listened)that women pay more for the "same coverage", that is a false statement. Women don't get prostate tests, and men don't get mammograms. Care is sex specific and it is well documented that women have higher costs, so they are subject to higher rates. Same as teenage boys and auto insurance. Blame the X or Y chromosome, not the insurance that has to account for it. So are you going out to see Occupy Unmasked to see how the movement was created and used by big labor? |

Ah, you made it so clear.
Impotence is medical, but I also think it is recreational. Yeah, that doesn't explain it well enough. |

Oh, I get it, when I watch those commercials for Viagra or cialis those 50 something men driving their 69 Camaro ( yes, it is a 69) or using their horses to pull their truck out of the mud, or sitting in the bath tubs side by side, that the voice-over says " you've reached the age to know what you want" really means "now its time to start a family"? These "boner pills" are not marketed to 20 somethings. None of those drugs will treat what's preventing the 50 year old women in the commercials from getting pregnant, unless they come with a time machine.
So when the Voice-over says "you've reached the age of taking action" (its on their web site to, as is this warning) "If you are older than age 65, or have serious liver or kidney problems, your doctor may start you at the lowest dose (25 mg) of VIAGRA", they assume you are desperately trying to start a family. The reality phone is ringing, better answer it. I am curious where you get your information on wait times for medical services in Canada. My daughter is a nurse at a hospital in Victoria BC. There are no delays in providing medical care. Just like here it may take a little time to shop around for a surgeon to do a hip for knee replacement, but probably not as long as it took me to find a surgeon to do my third shoulder surgery (it took three months just to see him and another 1 1/2 months to schedule it at Loyola). Medical tourism for care and drugs is very big in Canada, and their citizens get the care for free, including my daughter and her husband who are not even citizens. Tell me of your first hand experience with Canadian medical care. You may want to check out some of their sites. This is from one. Why choose Canada for travel and treatment? Accessing medical treatment in Canada is simple and traveling there couldn't be easier. There's no need to worry about language barriers but you'll still get to enjoy the experience of being somewhere with a distinctly different culture. Straightforward payment systems mean you're unlikely to encounter hidden costs. Hospital staff are highly trained and good at anticipating your concerns. It's easy to find pleasant accommodation without straining your wallet. Medical Facilities in Canada Canada is a great choice for a range of procedures including cancer treatment, organ transplants and heart surgery. Survival and recovery rates are high. The average cost of inpatient treatment is just $10.373, making it considerably cheaper that the US alternative. Canada also has an excellent record for treating kidney disease, even in the late stages of the condition, with a mortality rate almost half that of the US. After the in-hospital treatment, you'll find that your prescribed medication is cheaper too. It's no wonder the Saudis come here for treatment. We can do fairly well, if you have the kind of money where you can rent a whole floor for your entourage. If you can't afford the whole floor and the ramp fees for your private 737 to fly you there, better shop around. |

The only thing I get out of these discussions is when I considser Obama for another term because there are some things I think he's done a good job at, and then I consider the mindset of the people that support him, I know I don't want to be in that camp.

John, Where did I say Viagra was about conception? I said it is to treat the medical problem of Impotence. Our system pays for trying to fix what old age damages. By Seth's description we would not pay for knee surgery because walking is recreational. I am fine with it being prescribed and covered with a standard co-pay like any other drug, but why free? What is the inherent disability that only women have to pay for medical co-pays? If one exists (I don't believe so) does that not throw a wrench into the argument of women being equal to men?
John I worked for a private ambulance service in Minnesota, I started out in a transfer division that frequently picked up patients from medical air transportation and occasionally even did ground transport of patients from Canada to the US. I heard first hand and second hand from my co-workers the reasons these patients were spending thousands of personal dollars to get here because of wait times or inadequate treatments offered in Canada. |

John, Hardock only asked if it was racist. Neither of us suggested an origin. You attributed it to being a republican Prop. I offered the story documenting it as being readily available to the convention crowd. Do you have evidence that it was a staged Photo to back up the claim you made? |

Sorry Man, posting pictures, sarcasm, and sometimes a little silliness is needed so it is easier for some to see the faults in the currentgop. I say current because I think they have never been as crazy as today. Are there members of the gop that repulse you like some on the left? I could probably give you some examples, heck take a look at the last pic I posted. Or the gop follower that shot Gabby in Arizona. You wanna participate in that crowd? All on the left or right are not so far from you. You seem like a reasonable person and admitting you agree with Obama on some things is cooperation, what I think some have forgotten. Highlighting what you think Obama did right, is just as important as what you don't like. |

Seth, great shot. Republicans are about individual responsibility. Out of the list who can stand up and speak for themselves and who can't? If you are about the government helping those who cant help themselves, giving a leg up, being the voice for those that are abused, and powerless ( I heard this for four days of your convention)how can you disregard a voiceless group that includes innocent minorities and women. This group is experiencing slaughter based on biased decisions of individuals given the right to determine if another life is worthy of birth. I thought your platform believes we need the government to make our big decisions? Dems put in the hands of government the decisions of which light bulbs we can buy, what health care options our insurance companies can and must offer, where we can smoke legal products, the fuel economy of our cars, and the size of our sugared beverages, all based on people making poor decisions on their own. But this one decision that involves the entire life of an individual is trusted to a the same individuals who are believed to be unable to adequately make the other decisions? And at a time of emotional stress and hormonal imbalance? Interesting plan. |
